It's probably been reported but the current Panasonic promotion is for those who purchased a new Blu-ray player (specific models) through the end of this month and they have to have their submissions postmarked by the end of March, so my guess is it will be released in May or sometime this summer to everyone else.

That does not mean it will not be released in March. It is possible they release it while still honoring the remaining rebate submissions that trickle into March.

Ironically today I was at Costco and couldn't resist picking up the BDT215 even with less than a week before we hopefully have some news.... Rebate goes in the mail tomorrow.

Selling the DVD player I will probably net a loss of about $25-$30. Hopefully by the time I get Avatar it won't be selling for less. than $30.

It'll be March in a little over a week.

I HIGHLY doubt that it will be released this March.

For a release like Avatar in 3D, you would see hype and confirmation months in advance. I knew the Special Extended Edition was being released an entire year before it was released.
I really don't think they'd put Avatar 3D in stores without any announcement at all.

I don't expect a release until Fall or Winter. Summer is for the theater and Spring is for Titanic 3D.

I guarantee they will release the theatrical version first before the extended versions for at least a whole year. Just like The Lord of the Rings.

Granted, it's still the Corniest Movie Ever Made, but I'm still curious about the home 3-D (hey, you can still turn the sound down and enjoy Neytiri without the goofy script ), but it's more a case of "Why can't I get MY free stuff??"
While I agree with you about the PS3 and Avatar itself (Movie was just alright in my opinion, but it was definitely a weak script). I also have a PS3 , but I wanted a extra player for another room. I figure since the 210 was $120 and came with a free copy of Avatar why would someone pay $70 alone for Avatar from eBay when they can get a great player for $30-$40 extra dollars if they went with the 110.
One of the other reasons I picked up another player is the PS3 still doesn't do Dolby True HD and 3D at the same time. Although not many 3D titles use Dolby True HD you still have the wonderful Fung Fu Panda 1 & 2 that do. Plus you have Transformers 3 and the upcoming Puss in Boots.

Still haven't received my copy of Avatar and it was shipped on January 26th.
Waiting patiently.

Probably because the extended version was never finished in 3-D--The one that played theaters was.

If Cameron wanted to squeeze money (which Fox doesn't quite think is worth it yet), they could conceivably spend that year finishing the 3-D on the extended scenes, just so long as it isn't that crappy homemade Harry Potter 7.1 3D.
But that's a very, very academic "If".

What 3D is there to finish? The stuff in the collector's edition is all native shot 3D with some CG elements. And with software like Renderman which most VFX houses use it makes the most sense to render the VFX in 3D because Renderman only takes 1/3 longer to render in 3D if you do that original time of rendering the final VFX shots. If you go back and render the other eye separately it takes just as long to do one eye.

I got that notice and then one more I believe said it shipped and can take 8 to 12 weeks to arrive. Since it's shipping from the East Coast and I live in California I can understand it will take longer, but my god it's been almost 3 months from when I sent everything in. But can't complain for me it's a added bonus that came with the player. Not since I was a kid and sent in my 10 Star Wars backing cards for the Emperor figure has a process taken as long.

Wonder why Panny doesn't put the movie inside the box that the blu ray player came in? Seems to me that is the best way. When you buy the blu ray player, you get the movie at the same time. When you plug in your blu ray player, flop the movie inside the player, turn on the groove tube, then kickback and rocknroll on the movie. Seems to me that a mail-in option is another way for Panny to rub your nose into it... just to make you sweat a little finally before you get your movie. After all, you did buy the player... right? Then why not get the movie at the same time?

Just something that makes me want to go, "Hmmmmmmm".

Oh, BTW, this is not Panny bashing... just an observation...

Probably because they would get a lot of returned players and other items missing the free disc.

Panasonic did originally include Avatar 3d in the box way back when they 1st started offering it, but quickly stopped because a lot of theft was occurring. Thieves were opening up the boxes and taking them, then selling them for hundreds of dollars each.

Not sure if this is mentioned but Amazon.com now has a placeholder page and a button to be notified once a release has been decided too
