I think it best for blind buyers to at least seek out the first episode disc. Also, I've seen enough warnings about this series that one can get lost rather easily without reading a book first.
The first episode cannot hurt though it obviously will not in itself be enough in the long run. I say that cause I have changed my opinion about some TV series in the past whereby I was hooked at first and it went downhill from there. And I may be warning myself personally cause Rome didn't do so well for me to tell the truth. Time will tell but the Rewards coupon I have and perhaps even more price wars amongst retailers before release day cannot hurt! Last edited by robertc88; 02-29-2012 at 04:19 PM. |

All they had there were the key chains. In fact they still had a couple key chains as of last week. I didnt really need to see the disk anyway but if I had gotten it I would have passed it around.

Like I posted earlier, try Barnes and Noble. What could it hurt unless there isn't a location close to you. And I didn't need to buy an HBO series, the guy just gave it to me as they were flooded with them. I certainly wasn't going to buy an HBO series and not many would with their prices.

I'm blind buying this since it's my genre and heard great things about it. But I will be buying from Amazon.com and not .ca, since we are getting bent over here in Canada. Amazon.com $34.99 and Amazon.ca $64.99

It used to be free (okay .. $0.01) when you bought Boardwalk Empire or any HBO series for that matter .. I bought it at Best Buy .. apparently a lot of Best Buy stores allowed customers to just buy the episode for one cent .. Not too sure if its still going on ..
My sale/trade thread. Deals when you buy multiples !!

Don't know but all the HBO series are ridiculous prices in Canada. A lot of tv series in general actually come to think of it. "Lost" is $191.99 on .com and is $279.98 cheapest on .ca (although it's from a 3rd party. Was the same price from .ca before selling out)...could of gotten Lost on .com for $159 just last month. I bought Sons of Anarchy (all 3 seasons) for $112 shipped and taxes in from .com, and here it was almost $200 at the time. We get bent over all the time and I don't know how they can justify it. Movies aren't as bad, although they are still cheaper in the US

What is your experience with HBO release prices at Best Buy, do they last at least a week?

Stores, obviously, change from region to region...so maybe you'll get an understanding store manager that can work with you to...ya know...garner more business for the store. Hopefully it works out for you, as this is an excellent series!
