If the 93 isn't set to Source Direct in the Video settings, then the video processor is enabled and is likely scaling the source material to 1080P. Your TV doesn't know what the source resolution is, it only displays the input resolution from the player.

Im with you I just received mine yesterday but because I have to work wont have time to set it up and play with it till this weekend I Hope. After reading almost every review of this player its going to rock or better yet it has to ROCK!!! Next upgrade will be receiver so I can also get some Emotiva's to boost my sound. Then last new speakers looking into B&W or Klipsch. I heard B&W are power hungry and Kilpsch are not any thoughts?

I was told from oppo that it would play in whatever resolution the screen was from 720 to 1080P. they do recommend 720. it works fine in 1080P.

The point I was trying make is if you have a source 720p content and you have the video processor set to 1080p on the Oppo, the Oppo will then scale the signal to 1080p and your TV will display 1080p on the Info screen.

If you turn off the video processor on the Oppo (i.e., Source Direct), it should pass the source content untouched, so if the content is 720p, your TV Info should show 720p.

Panasonic and Sony Blu-ray players do not have a source direct feature like OPPO. If the resolution is set for 1080P on any Blu-ray player without source direct being turned on then the 720P Netflix streaming will be upconverted to 1080P, but it will not be true 1080P since the source is 720P.

My understanding is the Playstation 3 has an exclusive agreement for 1080P streaming for Netflix only. That could change in the future and possible some other Blu-ray players might offer 1080P Netflix streaming in the future with a software update.

Has anyone had trouble with the BDP93, or the BDP95 reading/playing Hugo?

(or with the BDP83 either for that matter?)

Yep. I'm having trouble loading it. Wonder how soon till the update comes out? Go figure my Sony plays it just fine!

do you have the latest beta firmware update. I read at the avs forum that if you have that firmware update it should work fine. however it does take away the iso program away.

No, you're not the only one. The 3D version was acting up, but I got it to work eventually. But the 2D Blu-ray will not load. It freezes up and I have to reboot the player to get the disc out. It loaded just fine(albeit very slowly) on my PS3. I had a similar problem with Lady and the Tramp a few weeks ago. It worked the first time I tried it on my BDP-93, but the next time I put it in a few days later, it froze up just like Hugo.

I'm wondering if there's something going on with recent releases that requires an update from Oppo in order to fix.

I have the latest firmware from Oppo but must be something up with these new disc

I tried this last night and it did work on my BDP83 without a problem, however it did appear to stall at 0 00:00:00 like many others are experiencing. Here is my post from last night in the BDP83 thread.

the beta firmware on the oppo site took care of my issues i was having with Hugo and my 93. i had this in the 83 thread because that's where it came up about the problem with Hugo for the 83 and then the 93 so i test them both. of course the firmware is only for the 93; the 83 worked without any problems at all.

I'll wait for the official version, but that's good to hear. Of course I'll be losing the ISO playback feature, so I might take my time updating the firmware.

I tried this with Hugo, but to no avail. I actually left it alone for 10 minutes or more but it remained locked up at "TT 0 00:00:00." I ended up hooking up the PS3 so we could watch the movie. The PS3 loaded it without a hitch.

Its using the new ultaviolet DRM scheme, upgrade to the BDP9x-64-0119B beta FW update then try playing Hugo.

No, my intent was to say I will hold off on the beta firmware and wait for it to go public as I don't like to be a firmware beta user. But I see it went public today, so I guess I'll get it the next time I fire up the system.

I just played Hugo 2D. My 93 is still with the ISO-able FW and is not connected to Internet ,BDlive is also Off.
