That being said, I found that compared to the Vantage (the ML I'm most familiar with), they had better mids and highs. Though I thought the highs were slightly brighter than the Vantage's. Bass wasn't equal, but the Theos don't have powered woofers, so that's to be expected. I was surprised by the amount of bass the Theos can put out though, and in hindsight, perhaps it's slightly tighter than what you get with the Vantage.

I think I remember hearing them a couple of years ago at the Magnolia store. I was really impressed, but I'm happy with the Motion 12's.
My System: Pioneer Elite Pro 111FD, Dish 722VIP DVR, PlayStation 3 (60GB), X-Box 360 Resident Evil 5 Elite Red, Onkyo Tx-nr709, Martin Logan Motion 12's, Oppo 983H, Logitech PS3 Adapter, Monster HDP 2500, Monster AVS 2000, Logitech Harmony One! It all Rocks!
My Blu-Ray wish list: Time Machine, Cyborg, the Sword and the Sorcerer, Dreamcatcher, Storm of the Century Movies to see: Resident Evil: Retribution, Expendables 2. |

Can anyone tell me how well this speaker sounds? Also, how does it compare to the Definite Technology ProCenter 1000 center channel?
I would have posted this a separate thread but since I'm new here I don't have permission. I haven't listened to either speaker but I've read wonderful things about ML and I'd like to replace my current Polk center channel with the Motion 6. Thanks everyone. |

It depends really. The ElectroMotions are pretty awesome. Martin Logan gave us quite a bit for the money with this line. The only thing you don't get is a choice of finishes. They only come in black. The performance however is something special. The sound quality is up there with some of their more expensive models. On top of that they aren't power hogs like most of their speakers. They run at a nominal 6ohms with a sensitivity of 91dB's so a good receiver is all that's needed to run them unlike most other Martin Logans that really need external amplification. You can look at some vintage models, but know that they will require that you spend more money on amplification so your savings may be negated. Not only that, but the newer lines are a lot more stylish than the most of the older models IMO. Don't get me wrong though...there are certainly some vintage models that are well worth exploring particularly if you can get a good price on them.

I don't know if anyone has time to take a look for me
I went into best buy and talked to the guy about speakers, the guy was really trying to sell me on these: Motion 10 5-1/4" Floor Speaker http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MartinLo...ear&cp=1&lp=13 Motion 8 4" Center-Channel Speaker http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MartinLo...ear&cp=1&lp=15 Dynamo 500 10" 360-Watt Powered Subwoofer: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MartinLo...ear&cp=1&lp=13 what do you think? For the price should i do something else? I want to get a great setup and only do it once! (well for at least 10 years or so). Right now I have a very crummy free 5.1 sony home theater in a box. Going to get a new amp and front and center and sub . Then work on the rears. Any feedback would be great! |

I ended up buying them, I'm too impatient to wait on an ElectroMotion sale. I have an Emotiva XPA-5 amp hooked to a Pioneer Elite VSX-52, so I'll have enough power driven Got them on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-Vi...377078&sr=8-21 Last edited by mywhitenoise; 12-31-2011 at 11:35 PM. |

I say go with the Logans. Those Polks are incredible for the price newegg sells them, but electrostatic speakers have a greater appeal to me. |

Motion 12's aren't electrostatic speakers though. They have what they call a Folded Motion transducer or tweeter which is meant to somewhat simulate the sound of an electrostatic speaker. In some respects it works, but in most respects it doesn't. It's a good speaker, but it is not in the same league as any of the electrostatic offerings.

I've been researching new speakers and have seen a lot of buzz about ML. I'd seen them before but knew nothing about electrostatic. Interesting stuff. And I just found out ML is based in Lawrence, Kansas. I lived there 8 years and didn't even know. What's up with that?!
