Do you mean "properly" as in "on Blu-ray"? ... or in all seriousness do you mean something else? The DVD looks surprisingly good for its age and the audio track is 2.0 Surround. That's (IMHO) even better than "plain" Stereo and it's begging for a 5.1 mix. Thumbs crossed on that one. It can certainly be done (another one I experimented with).

The PQ of The Money Pit is good on DVD as well. It even already has a DTS 5.1 mix so (no offense to the studio) there's really no excuse for not eventually releasing this on BD

Well, that too. But I never really sat down and watched it as a whole.
It would just be on TV in parts or I would just find it while flicking through channels.
So basically I watched it in chunks and pieces spread over years. XD
But I definitely enjoyed it, so yeah, I want to properly watch it some time and if it would be in a good to great HD-transfer, that would make it even better.

The Day After Image Entertainment had the LaserDisc rights in the 90's, but MGM dropped the ball and gave us a totally shitty 4:3 transfer onto DVD without commentary!

Exactly. An online friend was kind enough to send me a LD > DVD transfer and I enjoyed seeing what was different; not much but still interesting. The theatrical ratio was definitely nice though.
The commentary was surprisingly informative. The version he sent me also contained the original soundtrack. MGM not only screwed up the AR but tinkered with the effects in some scenes. They added a weird delay-like effect to the screams of panic in the streets.
