I'd much rather invest an extra $100 up front for a much more capable console. Loved how the PS3 dominates everything else and puts out the absolute best games this generation

they can go way higher spec wise than the ign specs and still hit the $299 price

And make not much of a profit or no profit at all.

To keep a similiar profit on a stronger system the price will be higher

Sony was losing money on the $600 PS3. But the casual crowd was furious at Sony for "ripping them off" and "forcing" bluray on them

So the next generation of consoles will be cheap, unremarkable devices

I'm prepared to pay $599... AGAIN, at least if it REALLY does everything. Like the OG 60GB did. If it's the equivalent of my Slim, then yeah $299 max but realistically I'll be wait and see if there is only a single SKU or the differentiation is only something inconsequential like an accessory/game/HDD size.

I would be willing to drop $500-$600 on the next PlayStation if it was an improvement over the PS3. I do have the original 60gig & a Slim as well. I just want to hard facts on what we will & will not be able to do with this system.

You do know that you can change the background so the sparkles aren't there, right?

I meant the version of the software that included that change. Yes, I turn the sparkles off but it's not the same. It doesn't get as dark as it used to and I think that was the OS that stopped the autoplay from standby, as well. More specifically if I hadn't updated when I did the DIY repair, I would then have Endless do their repair and just keep it off PSN to use as my BD player and use the Slim for gaming.

Endless Electronics. Pretty good rep for reballing, though pricey (I could probably buy another Slim or do the complete cleaning, fan/PSU upgrades and RSX reball).

just take a look at what they did with the vita to get an idea about the ps4. take common off the shelf (but still powerful) components and price it close to cost. losing a little bit of money at first is fine, its the way it always was before this generation. but losing $200+ and not making profit for years...well, thats never happening again

l'll pay $600 again for the PS4 as long as it's powerful. l don't want a half assed console. If those 72O specs turn out to be true, especially the new one, i know which system im buying next gen. l don't want the same graphics as this gen but prettier, i want something completely new.

That was done as much for Blu-ray and the format war more than the gaming concern (the timing for the Blu-ray cost them at least a year pushing back the launch). Wonder if it's worth it from that perspective (BD licensing, etc) now that HDDVD has had dirt in it's face for how many years?

I really would like it to have ps3 b/c but i understand why they wouldn't have it. The whole used game thing is bs. I'm curious to find out how it will work exactly. What if u have two people on one console? they have to use the same psn account to play the game? Parents aren't gonna buy two copies of the game for their kids. And also a lot of people aren't gonna spend $60 on a game that will have no resell value as soon as the buy it, not everyone keeps all the games they buy.
