Blu-Ray cause I would've been really pissed at how ripped off I got if I bought it.
There was a lot of pop-out in that movie... and it WAS in real Blu-ray 3D. The initial release of the fourth Final Destination wasn't, since it was before Blu-ray 3D existed. It has since been re-released.

Just release all 6 movies in theature's without any 3D and I'd be willing to throw the same amount of movie at the movies, but the 3D was just bad honestly... I honestly expected something, but this felt like I was watching a 2D game being played in 3D, just layer after layer, never feeling like it goes naturally...
I'm a big fan of Star Wars and I even like I,II and III, but not as much as I liked IV, V and VI. In any case, you are right about the 3D effects on SW1. What a waste of good money to go watch that on the big screen. I hope, let me repeat that, I hope when SW movies (in 3D) are released on blus, they will be of high quality and the best that 3D can offer.

I've got a few 3D blus and most are pretty decent, but a good many are lousy.

Back to your point. I can get on a trantrum sometimes... the 3D effects of Star Wars I was flat. If I didn't have the Real 3D glasses on when watching it, I could not tell that is was in 3D. I wasn't impressed one bit. Do you hear me George Lucas... I WASN'T IMPRESSED! GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER on gettting the 3D right for the next 5 movies.

BTW, I watched a two minute interview. The reporter asked GL when he was going to resume making Star Wars 7, 8 and 9. He replied, "I'm retiring."

Okay, I've said enough now... I'll give someone else a change to bellow...

Loved it, and its predecessor, Final Destination 3D, too. Great 3D, ingenious plots, decent acting, solid production values. I never tire of the series' basic concept. Hope they make a batch more, all in 3D, of course.

You seem to represent the vast majority of knowledgeable people who were very disappinted with this 3D release. I haven't seen it. but I trust your evaluation.
I wonder what really happened; Lucas' history with THX and ILM should have guaranteed a top-notch 3D conversion.
Who or what screwed it up?
After having re-watched the Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back blu-rays, I was thinking how appropriate each would be for a high quality 3D conversion. Now I'm not so sure.

I recently watched the non-Romero "Day of the Dead 3D", and man did it suck. The 3D was terrible. They made an attempt to have a pop out 3D blood effect every time a zombie teared into a victim, it just looked like some one throwing mud out of the screen (with crosstalk and ghosting). And the zombies moved like the creepy girl in "The ring", strange choice? Meena Suvari was the main character/protagonist, and it's no wonder she's has been in absolutely nothing since her American Pie/American beauty days, what a horrible actress. Anyhow, avoid this one if you can.

One would think the same, but however, it is the 3D company that did the conversion... not GL. He just wanted to get the money and run... GL wants to retire.

I will ignore cheap films, like Piranha 3D..

but Frightnight... it was difficult to see most of the film due to the fact that it had ghosting and it was dark through out most of the film, all in parts of the film was confusing as you couldn't see what's going on.

I agree with you, but when I watched man eating fish in 3D, it sort of blew me away... I mean, there were some parts that were cool on 3D... I know, I know... the movie totall sucked, but if you get a chance to get it for about $10 bucks... it's worth it... besides, there are those days that aint got shit on TV... so you can watch this funky 3D instead... you'll get a kick out of it... (hint have plenty of beer on hand).

I honestly think Hybrid is the worst that I have seen, by a long shot. Heaps of convergence (ghosting) issues, no pop that I recall at all and a very dark grainy image. I cant believe it has not been mentioned.

I think I have seen about 70 of the about 80 I own now and all that people have mentioned except Dawn of the Dead (have not seen) I have enjoyed and could not imagine watching them in 2D. Thats me though.

Hmmm, there have only been 3 movies that I watched on blu-ray in 3D that I had to stop in the middle and switch to 2D: Conan the Barbarian, Harry Potter: TDH p2, and Fright Night.

The 3D in Conan and Harry Potter was unwatchable for me, and Fright Night looked good in the daytime scenes, but then was too dark to see ANYTHING on the night scenes. I avoid conversions now and films that mostly dark.

Priest is the only movie I own that might actually be better-looking in 2D. You'd miss a pop-out and a couple of decent CGI moments, but you'd skip the wonky conversion messes. 80% of the time, 3D objects looked really warped and disproportionate. Their were many flat 2D-ish scenes where it looked like the conversion artists didn't finish adding dimensionality, and they hardly spent any time at all on the dimly lit scenes.

Worst native 3D (I still enjoyed these okay in 3D.):
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
2. The Darkest Hour
3. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

I don't have problems with dark 3D movies on my passive setup (I have before in theaters though.). Sanctum and My Bloody Valentine are two of my favorites. Fright Night was very poorly lit, but I could still see details okay.

I have been able to tolerate just about all crappy conversions except one, Clash of the Titans. IMO, the 3D is unwatchable and detracts from the movie. I sat through the whole thing, giving it the benefit of the doubt...but... No chance. 2D makes this mediocre movie, less bad. 3D just pisses you off more!

Didn't think much to Alice but the worst for me was Gulliver's Travels!! The conversion was utterly pointless .. and created no depth of any kind..

.. I avoid conversions these days .. although I am nipping out in a bit to see if I can find a fair priced John Carter (how gullible am I!? )

I have to wonder if we are all seeing the same or similar things on our telly's? Is it gear or calibration maybe? I own all the titles mentioned above (except Gullivers, though I have seen it and am looking to buy when i see it priced reasonbaly) and enjoy them all and could not imagine watching ANY of them in 2D. As i have mentioned before, that whole thing seems odd to me.

Also when people say, "I will check it out in 2D first and then if its good and I see good reports (and of course not a convert!), then I might buy..." Why even waste the time and money to do something that will only hamper your watching experience later (if its even watched in 3D)?? I dont know how any of mine look in 2D or compare and frankly dont care.

Also this (un)natural bias and prejudice against anything that has been converted bothers me, usually on the reputation of one (in some people's opinion) bad conversion really. To me, it's like people trying to prove they're clever by saying such a thing, really a cliche now too,but in reality just exposes them for their limited knowledge and tendency towards sheepiness..The same goes for 95% of reviewers so it isnt just a knock at people here. And I am not trying to be personal towards anyone in any way, its just a general observation.

on to the topic at hand, and I thought I had already posted in this on this, but anyway, its definitely Hybrid 3D in my book. No pop at all that i remember, very flat grainy dark image most of the time and plenty of ghosting and convergence issues. Just a mess.

Still, they all would have been better in true 3d.

Errrm excuse me, but don't generalise people as u have above without 1. Knowing them ir 2. Questioning their judgement or knowledge based on their individual taste. The thread is asking for peoples views about movies. Not knocking them for having their own opinions, which you may not agree with. If we all shared the same taste, then these forums would have been defunct long ago.

Back to conversions, i know what i like and what i don't. I av thrown away too much money on converted 3D blu rays that shoukd never have been converted ... i don't have the cash to be throwing around willy-nilly ... so I will choose what i buy based on preference ta
