Reasons I hate it -
People say it's better than SW, which is blasphemy unless it's true.
It made $600 million, I'm guessing mostly from diCaprio tweeny bopper fans seeing it again and again. This actually made me dislike Leo for a long time and it's only recently I've found out he's actually a phenomenal actor.
The theme song makes me want to take a blowtorch to every single physical copy of My Heart will go on, ever.
It's a movie about a boat sinking, whoop de do.

Read up on it, do a little bit of homework before "guessing" who went to the theaters 14+ yrs ago, keeping the movie at #1 for FIFTEEN STRAIGHT WEEKS. Again, NOT seeing a movie & having no idea how good or bad an Actor he was in it, made you Dislike one of the Better young Actors out there?? Come on, Darth!

The film received steady attendance after opening in North America on Friday, December 19, 1997. By the end of that same weekend, theaters were beginning to sell out. The film earned $8,658,814 on its opening day and $28,638,131 over the opening weekend from 2,674 theaters, averaging to about $10,710 per venue, and ranking number one at the box office, ahead of the eighteenth James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies.

By New Year's Day, Titanic had made over $120 million, had increased in popularity and theaters continued to sell out. Its biggest single day took place on Saturday, February 14 (Valentine's Day), 1998, making $13,048,711, more than six weeks after it debuted in North America. It stayed at number one for fifteen consecutive weeks in the United States and Canada, which remains a record for any film. By March 1998, it was the first film to earn more than $1 billion worldwide. The film stayed in theaters in North America for almost TEN MONTHS, before finally closing on Thursday, October 1, 1998 with a final domestic gross of $600,788,188.

Now see the run it went on would've impressed me before another film by James Cameron came along and just rewrote the history books. Mad that the sequel isn't coming till at least 2015 but oh well. I'm cutting way down on blind buys anyway so even if someone else convinces me to like it chances are slim I'd ever get it.

AVATAR rewrote the BOX OFFICE Record Books only. Not the number of #1 at the Box Office for 15 consecutive weeks, not for being in theaters TEN Months, etc.

[Show spoiler](Btw - that's freakin' Shocking to me, whether you Like/Love/Hate the movie - that's not the point. If it was one of the GONE WITH THE WIND, STAR WARS in 77', one of the LORD OF THE RINGS films, or something Animated or the recent J. Depp "Alice In Wonderland", that accomplished those feats, I'd still be blown away - Fifteen Weeks at #1, TEN Months in theaters. Those are just crazy silly numbers!! )

And you KNOW that the Avatar sequel will do just as much as the first, maybe a bit less, maybe more, who knows. But yea, it sucks that we have to wait a few more years for it. JC's been a bit busy writing the 2nd & 3rd sequels

, not to mention working on the 3D Conversion for Titanic (60 weeks right there), & his "side job" of being one of the best Deep Sea Diving Explorers around.

PS: I'm NOT trying to Convince you to buy it, it may not be something you'd like. Maybe you will. The romance aside, it Was an Incredibly technically challenging movie to make. It's shot incredibly, Looks great, has some amazing action sequences, etc. ALL THAT is more impressive to ME than the romance angle, one that I know many filmmakers use to appeal to as wide a Demographic as possible

. For $12-14, you could see it now & decide for yourself. And don't worry, you only hear the Melody of that song a few times in the film. The song doesn't play til' the credits roll.

Thx dude - had a very good day. Had to drive to my bro's in Mass., got there around 12:30, ate about 2-2:10pm. They made some Incredibly tasty Ham, green bean casserole, carrots, potatoes, cpl rolls (& I only went back for a bit more Ham & carrots)
