So I took my PS3 completely apart and heated the GPU with a heat gun, put it back together and so far so good.

So I am back to hearing my PA-120 with blu-ray!
If you ever get the YLOD - no fear - the fix is easy enough!

Now to listen to a few of my Xmas presents: LOTR EE (yippie!!!), Transformers 3, Xmen ($5) and Clone Wars season 3 (can't wait for this one).

Now my PS3 has the YLOD (Yellow light of Death) so I plan to attempt the 'heat gun' fix as seen on youtube.

So for now, my wonderful PA-120 has gone silent (not completely - we still have FIOS - but not much sub action there!).

I'll let you know if the fix works - I can't wait to start it as I have to completely take apart the PS3 - certain "geek" factor there. I'll certainly brag about it online. :-)

The internet is so cool - people posting step by step video's of how to take apart, and how to heat the GPU - how to correctly apply the "Arctic Silver 5" thermal compound to the CPU/GPU. It really is amazing how much info is out there when you need it!

Like this great site - helped me get the right blu-ray player (PS3 in 07), the right subwoofer (PA-120 - thank you aramis109), the right front speakers (polk monitor 60's) and the list goes on and on.

Happy New year Aerodude!

For an Honest (and/or Correct) answer, if someone were to demo them over a few of the same Scenes or movies, & report their findings, would prob be the best way to judge this, no?

From MOST of what I've heard or read, while POLK AUDIO is known for making very good/excellent Mid-level
[Show spoiler](or High-End, depending on Whom one believes)
SPEAKERS, you don't seem to find many folks doing the old "I'm Not Worthy!!" dance for POLK Subs.

It'd be great if someone could chime in with, "Well, I used to own the PSW505 & then bought the PA-120" or vice versa, & report their thoughts as well.

Nice.

And you already have the sub riser? Looks like a GRAMA? or a Great GRAMA? Very nice. Once you get it setup right it will blow you away. Try the Kung Fu Panda "Skadoosh" - that scene comes to life - for sure!

Now all your movies will be "new" for the first time.

Added a couple more folks to the owner's list. Grats and hope you're enjoying the new sub as much as the rest of us do!

Clark17- late response by me, but the Bic subs and the PA-120 are manufactured in the same plant, last that I heard. They're pretty much equal. As far as the lava sub, I haven't heard it nor can I comment on it. I can say that the PA-120 has been in my house for awhile now with absolutely no regrets.

I put it on a riser and get very little wall-shake/boominess upstairs. We can watch movies while the little ones are fast asleep way louder than we should.

Any tips on getting this sub set up correctly....thanks

Also i have to set the subwoofer volume on my receiver really high +11 and the volume on the Sub high "8" to really hear loud bass. If i set the level on the sub to 6 i only get faint bass....Do you think my sub defective or is this normal ? Thanks

I'm no expert... hopefully others will chime in...

Did you run your receivers calibration/setup program? Not sure - maybe it has audessy? There should be a "mic" you plugin and place at the "best seat" - usually the middle between all the speakers (wherever you normally sit).

Make sure the front speakers (and rear) are set to "small" - that sends the bass to the sub.

The other possibility is a "sub crawl". Look that up on google. Try walking around the room - is the bass louder in other seats/places? With one sub, there are places that can be "dead" zones - maybe your seat is in a dead zone?

I'm thinking about buying a PA-10 for my bedroom, but was wondering how well they play up in the 80hz-85hz range. The reason I ask is because the speakers I am purchasing soon are the NHT superzero 2.0's and they have absolutely no bass so I need a sub that can play well up to that range.

They will sound fine... I have NHT 1.3's and I love the sound...

BTW ANYONES USING PS3 AS THEIR BLURAY PLAYER MAKE SURE THE AUDIO OPTION (PRESS THE TRIANGLE BUTTON) IS SET TO NORMAL..... I have been running mine on max for both music and movies and its been clipping this entire time... Was wondering why.certain scenes sounded odd....

Default PA 120 subwoofer

Would polyfil sheet help the sub go lower in frequency response?

I have own a pair of PA 120s for over two years now. About a year or so ago, I added polyfil to both. The type of polyfil I used was the loose stuffing type rather the sheet form. I think the loose fill is the recommended way. However, I couldn't hear any real audible extension in the low bass. I wouldn't waste my time to do it again if I ever got another PA 120. I think the PA 120 is a terrific sounding sub just as it is. What did make a noticeable improvement in the bass was putting the subs on sub risers to get them off the floor.
