I saw this earlier today. It was pretty good, and had some funny moments. But it wasn't as good as the original 3 movies, and I like those films a lot. In fact, for me each one was better than the one before it (so yeah, I would put American Wedding on the top of my list, even if that wouldn't be the popular choice).
It's too bad that Adam Herz (the creator of the series and writer of the original 3 films) wasn't involved with this. I do think it would have been better if he at least had a hand in writing it. The guys who helmed the Harold and Kumar films wrote this one. And while I enjoy that series as well (especially the first one), to me it's just a lot more uneven by comparison to the first 3 "Pie" films, with the second H&K film being the most disappointing. One thing that bugged me a bit was the whole thing with Jim's Mom being dead (which I assume perhaps the actress who played her didn't want to come back, but I don't know for sure). While it allowed some fun things to happen with his Dad in this movie, something seemed off about Jim's Dad being single, since he has always been a 'family man' and all. Also, while the direct-to-video movies were nothing great (and this movie was certainly better than them), and I can understand why this might not have been much of a priority, it would have been nice if some attention was paid to those and continuity had been followed. It's been a good while since I've watched any of them, but Jim's Dad appears in all of them, and if I recall correctly, he makes mention of Jim and Michelle having a kid in one of the movies, and in the last DTV movie, The Book of Love (which involves the "bible" from the original film getting destroyed and the main characters, with the help of Jim's Dad who had a hand in it's origins, tracking everyone down who contributed to it and recreating it), Jim's Dad makes (admittedly convoluted) comments about how the point of the book is to help them be good to their women, and the importance of love, etc, with him making reference to his wife. So, the comment about Jim and Michelle having a kid preceeds this, which would imply that the mom was still alive when the kid was born. But in "Reunion", their kid is only 2 and the mom has been dead for 3 years. I know, it's a "minor" detail, but one that could have been resolved by simply altering some dialogue and arranging the timing of things to simply line up a bit better. This wasn't a major issue by any means, but something that I noticed. It also would have been funny if they had made some kind of quick, brief joke about Jim's Dad's "adventures" in the DTV movies, since he always showed up in them under some convoluted premise, but I digress. Something still just seemed a little 'off' to me about this film compared to the previous ones in the main series, but I mainly attribute that to the change in writers and director. It wasn't a bad movie by any means. I still laughed a lot, enjoyed it, and will buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out. But it could have been better, and didn't live up to the first 3 IMO. I saw American Reunion on saturday and I too really enjoyed it. i would put it up there with the 1st one as the best in the series. I too think they did a good job at closing out the characters. I can't see how they could make anymore American pie movies with the original cast.

I saw this tonight. I thought it was pretty funny. I think the 2nd film is the funniest, but this one had enough laughs to keep you entertained. I don't want to spoil anything, but Jim's dad, Oz, and Stifler had the best laughs IMO.

I think Ali Corbin the actress who played Kara was in the audience with some her friends and family members. There was a section that was reserved in front of where my brother and I were sitting with a group who was clapping everytime Kara came out and they all had "reunion name tags." My brother said he thought she was sitting in front of us and I too thought I saw someone in the group in front of us who did kind of look like the Kara character but minus the makeup. I was like yeah right there cant be a cast member in the audience. After the movie ended and they showed Kara's picture in the credits the group was clapping and I overheard them say "great job and congratulations Ali" but i thought nothing of it. I didnt even pay attention to her name in the credits when they showed kara's pic. My brother wanted to wait around to see if it was actually her but I was like yeah right its not her so we didnt bother to wait around. I looked up Ali Corbin's bio and turns out she is actually from Chicago, IL.

Got a free ticket, so I might be seeing this Wednesday. Honestly, I'm debating whether to go.

No, I have movie cash for this one specifically. Wasn't exactly on my radar. But what the hell, I guess I'll go. Too much on my slate: Semesters about to close, Ive got some blind buys and on top of that want to see cabin in the Woods and the Raid.

i was a bit disappointed with this installment, i liked it but the movie has a different comedic tone than the other Pie movie. im sure its because the directors are the Harold and Kumar creators dont get me wrong i love Harold and Kumar but the comedy is very different. i think the new pie was definitely different than the first 3. if they hired one of the directors of the first 3 i think this could have been much better but i still enjoyed the movie just because it was so great to see these characters together again. i give the movie a 6.5/10 which is good but i give the first American Pie a 9/10 and the 2nd and third a 8/10 so 6.8 is a pretty big drop compared to the others.

Finally watched this movie this weekend. It was good to see most everyone from the first American Pie film (minus Jim's mom), and it was a feeling of nostalgia more than anything else, but it wasn't as funny as I hoped it would be. I was hoping to see more adult humor ala The Hangover, but this was juvenile. Missed opportunities, IMO. Still, I'm glad I got to see it-- for free with my movie passes. 3/5

Finally get the chance to see this movie with some friends over the weekend.
And although it wasnt a great movie, it certainly was funny enough to keep me and my friends entertained. Wasnt as good as i remember the first pie movie and part of why i might like was perhaps nostalgia, but still got a few good laughs out of me. I think if you just go see this with a couple of friends and have a beer with it and expect an oke funny film, you will have a fun night. Just like i did |

My girlfriend and I checked it out yesterday. I'm a fan of the first three films, however, I do not own them. But I've seen all of them a handful of times.
We both enjoyed it. Thought it was very funny. However, there were a few stale parts. I give it a 7/10, which is probably the same I would give to the previous 3 films. I guess after seeing 21 Jump Street a few weeks prior, and loving it, American Reunion just wasn't up to par. I did enjoy it though. A good solid comedy.
