If you can't make it to Target, Best Buy has "The Darkest Hour" for 22.99 in store, not sure whether it's online or not. Picked it up yesterday - despite the 3d reviews I'm actually pretty excited to watch tonight

For you cover collectors, it did have a slip case, non holographic. Also my case said it only had 1 disk containing both the BR and 3DBR copies. Haven't looked inside yet.....

The Darkest Hour is currently $19.99 on Amazon tax free and with free shipping if you have Prime. Amazon states 1 disc.

Just couldn't get past the reviews to want to spend that much on it just yet. Guess I'll wait and see on this one.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

The second "2D" disc you speak of would be bluray not dvd right? Did that make the price higher, being a 2 Disc set?

Glad you got a good copy. I think, from what I have seen lately, the price has gone up to around $80 bucks for the cheapiest one. On an avg, looks like people are spending upwards to a $100 bucks for Avatar 3D on eBay. Sounds like you got a good deal. I'd be put out if my friend decided not to loan me his copy anymore. Then I'll have to get a high price copy too. Avatar 3D is one of my most favorite 3Ds movies to watch. As a matter of fact, it is the number one 3D movie that I enjoy watching. I guess I've watched the 3D version about 3 times and never get tire of it... it is just that good...

Its funny because Avatar is officially being released to the public at the end of the year, if those people only knew!

Secondly, not all fakes perform badly as well. I was looking for "Sammy's Adventures" [the best 3D experience blu-ray so far] - and since all of them r Region-B, plus unavailable in N/Americas - I got one & decoded it to Region-A... made my own 3D blu-ray disc out of it... and it works like a charm!
Seems like a lot of work when you could have gone to ioffer.com and bought a perfect knock off for $20 including shipping. If you would think its okay to pay a friend $20 for a blank 50gb disc and the time it takes for him to burn a copy of a 3D movie for you that is not available for sale in the US, then you can look at it the same way as having a stranger do it as well I guess

I'm the kind who still wants the original retail disc and will buy it as soon as its available anyway even if I already have a working "copy". I just want to see the darn thing and I don't want to wait if I don't have to...or pay a thuggish price of $80 for it!

Keep us updated on what you think about the 3D: Subtle, average or strong 3D layers and depth? Thanks. Good movie?

$19.99 is a great price for a new 3D blu ray theatrical movie compared to $27.99.

Just my two cents, I watched the movie in 2D to judge if I even liked it before buying the 3D version and I hated it. Maybe I was expecting a bit more than I should have, but after the first attack, it seemed like it was stuck being dull even when it tried to create action. Plus, the ending just felt waaaay too rushed like it cut off before we could really get it. Like I said though, the first attack was really cool. I can't judge the 3D since I decided not to drop the money down for it after seeing the 2D one. But different strokes for different folks, I'm sure some people would like it.

Yeah, but the problem is that the end of the world is coming to an end... on 12/21/12... according to the Mayans, the world is suppose to come to an end...

So it would be great if they released it a few weeks before the "End" date.

To my eye, it was the strangest 3d experience I have had so far. Half of the scenes were completely flat. The other half had some depth. It felt like the movie kept switching from 3d to 2d and I actually found it exhausting. There was minimal pop with dust effects and such. I also experienced crosstalk for the first time. I'm glad I finally understand what it is. It hadn't happened before on the 20-some movies I've watched since I got my TV.

Everyone is different though, so don't take my word for it. That was just my experience.

Good to know I'm not the only one who felt that way then. As much as I wanted to like this movie, I just couldn't.

The problem is with "Sammy's Adventures"... This one is still Region-B with all sellers, incl. http://www.ioffer.com. The only way to get a Region-A version is to buy from YesAsia... (I've ordered there) but takes more than a month to arrive, costs $40+... And I couldn't wait!

So, picked-up the Region-B disc from my friend and converted it to Region-A myself. Yes, it took some efforts & time, but the outcome was very satisfying... It works well, with all the jing-bangs, full 1080p HD in 3D, 5.1 audio, nothing was lost.

Which why I commented earlier that if the 'work' is done well - it doesn't matter whether it was an original or a fake.

BTW, none of my purchases from eBay has turned-out to be fakes, not as yet!

Darkest Hour - I didn't think it was too bad and for 20 bucks I'm pleased with my purchase, downfalls were some of the acting wasn't great and the 3D stills looked good but any motion seemed to cause a disruption between the POVs, really shakey. Camera steady - good 3D. Movement - bad.

On the brighter side, I think there were some great visual effects and the concept of the movie was pretty neat, some scenes were pretty awesome like the beginning shot of the airplane, the collapsed bridge, the wrecked plane, or the spots where energy seemed to flow to the sky.

Did anyone else think once you actually got to see what these aliens looked like, they resembled thee 80's Tony Hawk Bird Skull? lol

I agree. Not bad for $20. It is a good fluffy, popcorn movie. I was concerned that it might end up being like Skyline.

Purchased The Darkest Hour at Best Buy with a $20 rewards coupon. The movie itself wasn't bad but the 3d was lacking, no pop really at all and little or no depth throughout. Shame cause it was filmed in 3d. I sold it on eBay today for $18

No actually the Sammy's Adventure 3D copy I paid $20 for on ioffer.com was the Hong Kong (region A) version. In the disc menu there is a selection for "English". If you want this copy just look for one with the turtle in the sand wearing glasses on the cover

BTW, just ask if a movie is region A or will play in your US bluray player and the seller will tell you before you buy
