As long as it plays the region b, I am good. I have 5 other players to handle region a.
Most anticipated release: The Hidden Fortress

I bought an NS-BRDVD4 before Christmas and finally gave it a partial workout tonight. (I own just two Blu-ray movies.) I'd previously flashed the last region-free firmware and confirmed that it works with a Region B disk. Among many other things, I was curious to see how the player reacts to a Region A disk when configured for Region B. Well, it seemed to lock up. After a power-cycle, and even after re-flashing the firmware, the 9113 option appears deactivated! Upon pressing any digit button on the remote, the player responds with "Prohibited". Some other posters have mentioned this problem, but seem to eventually figured it out. I'm gonna keep experimenting, too, but am curious if I could have triggered a fail-safe?
Although I just looked up the Blu-ray disk in question (the USA "Forbidden Planet") and see it's actually a Region 0... EDIT: After more playing last night, the feature returned. I don't know what I did. There seems to be some additional variable, but I don't know what it could be. Last edited by thetao; 04-09-2012 at 07:09 PM. |

So I bought the Insignia NS-WBRDVD4 a few months ago from Best Buy and haven't open it til today. (Been lazy for months) But anyhoot, I download the firmware and copy/pasta the .iso to my usb stick and updated the firmware. So I'm holding down the Home/Setup button on my remote expecting that menu to enter the 4 digit code but nothing comes up. I reinstall the driver and try hitting the Home/Setup button for a few more seconds and still nothing. I try the CA firmware to double check but there was an error when I try uploading it to the BR player so I know I have the right firmware before now but I still can't access the password menu. Any help???

I don't know what took me so long to check and see if the old Insignia player I have is one of these region free models and it turns out it is! I have the NS-BRDVD3 and I did the firmware and now I can play my German Digibook copy of Super and watch the PAL extras on my German copy of Chicken Run! And I don't have to worry regions anymore when importing!

I recently purchased a refurbished INSIGNIA NS-BRDVD4. The unit works and using the codes I am able to play Region 2 DVDs and Region B blu-rays.
However, my wife and I were watching a disc on the Insignia player tonight and the player was making some annoying noises during playback. It was a spinning motor noise (sounds like something spinning quickly, then slowing down, then spinning quickly again). During quieter moments of the film, it was quite noticeable (and distracting). Has anyone had the same issues or any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks. |
