Same for me.
My Sister and Bro-In-Law went to see it... 2 weeks after having their child.

Said it was a good / scary movie, but perhaps they should have read more of what it's about given their circumstances..

I've still not read anything about it, so have no real idea what it's about.
Definitely want to grab a copy though.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as all the recent posts have gone.

Currently £11.20 at HMV (includes discount) for those interested.
Have updated OP to include Momentum's response as to whether they are releasing the 12/15 version.

Good idea Hobgoblin, as i can see this thread being full of irate members again come next weekend.

I'll list the cuts again as like you said, half of this thread was lost with the database crash.

[Show spoiler]A girl is locked in the basement room where she smashes an oil lamp onto her own feet and comes up in flames, silently. In the UK cimena version, this scene is cut to obtain a 12A certificate.

[Show spoiler]A woman is briefly and shockingly seen hanging herself suddenly (we only see this for a second in the UK cinema version to keep the 12A rating).

UK: Passed 12A after 6s of BBFC category cuts for intense supernatural threat and horror for:
•UK 2012 Technicolor/Momentum video
•UK 2012 cinema release

The BBFC commented:

Distributor chose to reduce moments of strong violence / horror in order to achieve a 12A classification. Cuts made in line with BBFC Guidelines and policy. A 15 classification without cuts was available.

In addition to the 6 seconds of visual cuts, substitutions were also made by darkening some shots and by reducing the sound levels on others.

Are these cuts necessarily a bad thing? Perhaps the film will be more subtle because of them.

I haven't seen the film but I really like the 1989 ITV version. I'm going to rent the new film before deciding if I want to buy it. I didn't mean to insult anyone, I just wonder if toning parts down might actually benefit the film? That's a possibility, surely?

the german version is uncut guys

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...2-blu-ray-disc

the only bummer is that it only has german subtitles. But its far better bargain then being cut

Yes i can tell you it changes the film very much because the hanging scene is scary as hell and has been omitted in the UK cut version

he he good one i just don't see it make sense to cut a horror movie just because Potter is in it.

He will never get away from his potter image if they do that and i think Radcliffe is not happy about it either what Momentum is doing

By a millisecond. It's still present and you can see clear as day what's going on.

I went with the HMV sleeve, i thought about the cards but at the end of the day what you gonna do with the cards?! I've had cards before and all they do is sit in the case, that's if they fit, whereas the sleeve will look nice on the shelf and every time you get the film out to watch you will see it

Clearly some people feel very strongly about this, but does changing a film necessarily make it worse? Does a film need to be more explicit to be more frightening?

if it is such a small cut then why even cut it to begin with if it doesn't change the feel of the movie. There must be something that has been changed so 12 year olds now can watch the cut version over the the uncut 15 certicate. That is creating a big impact in the 3 year difference area

the hanging scene is brutal and its pretty scary so yeah it makes a difference because the hanging is so brutally done. Thats why it makes a difference to the feel of the movie imo.

I see. Then we disagree about what makes something scary. That being said, I haven't seen the film and you obviously love it, so I hope you get the version you want.
