Thinking about picking one up. If I don't go with that, a S590, but I'm leaning towards the 790.

Sweet...... I'm sure you'll like it. Before the site crash there was lots of feedback about this player, mostly good , and the most griped about was the exess apps that sony puts on it.

I love the XMB, I had a Panny before this Sony and hated the interface on it. So cheap looking.

The only thing that coud be better is the design, like Denon or Pioneer.

Hello everybody,
This is first me ever I am writing something into forums... I bought S790 around a month back. It is in Germany. I could explore most of its features. One feature that is really bothering me is "Rendering video...". This feature, I could try from my Samsung Android phone watching photos and movies controlled from phone. Now my doubt is can n't we do the similar thing from my laptop. Something like, can I use my TV as a monitor through this feature? Are there any special SWs or Windows-7 apps that transmits our monitor image to S790 player......????? Please suggest... |

I ended up getting the 590 because I was impatient, but that is for sale now. I found a deal I couldn't pass up on a used 790. It should be here in a couple weeks, I'm not actually paying for it until Feb 1st then its has to get shipped.
It will be interesting to see how much of a difference there between the two if any, for loading times and the upscaling of none BD source material. || AVR - Onkyo TX-NR1009 || Amps - Emotiva XPA-2 / Emotiva LPA-1 || TV - Misubishi WD60737 || BD Player - Sony BDP-S790 || CD Player - Denon DCM-290 || Gaming - Modified PS3 Fat || Gaming - Modified Wii || Main L&R - Polk Audio Monitor 70II || Center - PolkAudio CS2II || Surround - Polk Audio Monitor 40II || Rear Surround - Polk Audio OWM3 || Front High -Polk Audio OWM3 || Subwoofer - 2 Polk Audio PSW505s || Harmony 1100 Remote ||

I had the 590 for 6 months and just got the 790 a few days ago (found a pretty good deal on a used unit).
I wasn't expecting much if any difference between the two, I was close on that assumption. The 790 does do a better job at upscaling SD and internet based sources to 1080p, load times seem slightly better but not much though. Zero difference in HD sources, why would there be aside from a malfunctioning player or one that doesn't meet the specs....... Blu-ray is Blu-ray. Maybe on a newer better TV than my 4 year old Mitsu DLP there may be more noticeable differences in the upscaling but doubt it. All in all if you don't need the duel HDMI output for A/V separation there isn't enough difference between the 590 and 790 to justify the $100 or more in price, unless you fancy that skype app real bad EDIT: I have no idea as to any differences in 3D performance, because I don't use 3D. || AVR - Onkyo TX-NR1009 || Amps - Emotiva XPA-2 / Emotiva LPA-1 || TV - Misubishi WD60737 || BD Player - Sony BDP-S790 || CD Player - Denon DCM-290 || Gaming - Modified PS3 Fat || Gaming - Modified Wii || Main L&R - Polk Audio Monitor 70II || Center - PolkAudio CS2II || Surround - Polk Audio Monitor 40II || Rear Surround - Polk Audio OWM3 || Front High -Polk Audio OWM3 || Subwoofer - 2 Polk Audio PSW505s || Harmony 1100 Remote ||
