I want to watch that movie act of valor also, let me know what you think. The Missions arent bad, they are ran a little hot by audyssey, I was thinking if Im gonna invest that much into surrounds, why not get the best mains for me, which would be the 160s. Id almost rather pay for a pair of Energy RC-10s for $300, theyd be great surrounds without having to pay so much for them. Maybe I can find a pair of used Monitor Audio RS1s or new PSB B5s, or something when the time is right. Good for you that you feel you are about done, what else are you thinking you need to do? The 4 things?

The reviews weren't good on Act of Valor but I liked it. I ordered that Melody Gardot cd along with a few others last week. I should have it this week. I previewed some of it and I think it will be a cd that grows on me. The new stands look good Andrew. I think I have my iMac sold. If so I'll order a Parasound a23. Finding I've no need of 3 Mac computers with my iPad.

I'm sure you'll come up with the best combo to suit your tastes, no matter what that may be. I think you should still go with some Dyn surrounds but if not having them doesn't bother you that's great. I couldn't bring myself to do it, but then again I can get a little retarded about that type of thing. ![]() This week I think I'll order the Mini DSP eq for my subs, the other three remaining items would be as follows, 1. Audyssey Pro Kit 2. Finish off replacing the power cords and whatever other cables I would like to try. 3. Another sub, not really needed but 4 is cooler than 3 and just because I want to. No real practical reasons at all. A new display would be nice but I'm still determined to finish the audio first. I'd love to try a couple of other brands of speakers but just don't want to put the money out because of curiousity anymore. Maybe one day but for now I'm holding down the fort with my Digms. Has your list pretty much stayed the same from what you've previously stated? |

The risers didn't get done today, couldn't get enough sand dried. Been leaving it spread out in a thin layer on a garbage bag in the sun to dry, it's a slow process to get 40lbs to dry. That's sweet about the A23, it should serve you well. Did you check Audio Advisor? Sometimes they have the Halo amps as B-Stock for some descent prices, I forgot to mention that to you earlier. Hopefully the deal for your Mac goes through, can't imagine why you'd need that many for yourself. Good call on selling it as I'm sure the cash will be more useful. Just about to start the movie, might fall asleep though as I'll be watching it in bed. |

However, when Im home, Im more interested in 2-ch then Movies lately. But being home is seldom, tomorrow church study, tuesday disneyland in the evening, friday a bar with my buddy for his bday(maybe) and sunday Disney for fathers day. I will say that having the dac has made me more interested in music then before; so its doing something. Im not sure what to do with the TT, I use it, but not a lot, I could sell it for a little spare cash, and get a dedicated CDP or the Oppo 93. But then I still enjoy LPs here and there, espcially the ones that I bought just for the TT. Id hate to trade in the LPs and have to rebuy the cds. I think my priority would be the 160s and a new display as 1, 2. BUT, taking my wife to Hawaii is more important to me atm, its time to do something nice for her, just me and her.

Do you think the 160's are really that much better than your Excites? If someone was coming over for a demo what would be your go to track be? For me it would be Cold Shoulder from Adele 19, the sense of space and the also most surround like sound coming from just two speakers is pretty cool. When the background vocals kick in it sounds like the surround speakers are on. That being said I haven't spent much time watching or listening to much down there, been to busy frack in around with the setup and staring at graphs. When that's been done it's too late to watch anything on that system. Been watching any movies I've seen lately in our bedroom. I've gotten past that phase and now know what needs to be done, until then I'm just going to use the manual eq setup I did and it is what it is. |

Im not sure how much better the highs and upper mids will be, as the Excites pour out the details lately thru those regions, Im surprised by how much detail they have shown. Heck tonight my wife was finishing This Means War, and there was a license plate flying thru the air, and you could just slightly hear the whirling of the plate. However the Focus is using a variation of the Esotar 2 tweeter you got to hear from the C1s. The other thing is the bass levels from the X16s to the 160s, that would be a big upgrade. Compare the bass from your Studio 20s to the C1s, OK, the X16s might be a touch bassier over the 20s, maybe, and the 160s is very near the C1s bass, so you can see that there the biggest improvement would be made. But sometimes the bass on the X16s is plenty. The 160s have a little more top-end sparkle to them too. My top track for a demo would be Eva Cassidy Fields of Gold, its such a great rendition of that song, just an electric acoustic guitar and her, with a dead quiet background. From there, I would go to another Cassidy song, its the 3rd song, great guitar and vocals, bass line is clear and deep. Followed by track #6 from that same album, the Piano is great, and the rest of the band is awesome, plus her voice is amazing. After that I would put on John Mayers Neon on the live cd. Then Star Track March of the Imperials. Then I would put on John Coltrane 2nd song, the piano is amazingly clear, and the horns are so brassy, its sweet sounding. Then Id rock the person out with my other stuff.
