Just looked up highest grossing films in Japan. Titanic, 2 HP movies, and Avatar all made either over or about 200M. A lot of movies have. This doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility for the Avengers. It's true that comic book movies don't do nearly as well in Japan, but NO comic book movie has ever done what the Avengers has done at the box office.

The bottom line is that we can guess all we want and think whatever we want, but no one knows.....the delay in releasing it could help it there (the hype about how much it's made) or hurt it (saw it on the internet).

Also, smart move (but obvious) releasing SpiderMan on Tuesday, July 3rd. Not sure I'm gonna like this one. If it doesn't go over well, I think it increases the chance of having Spidey in a Marvel future (by that I mean at least a significant appearance).

Saw it again today, still think what I thought before 4/5. Very good but not great comic book film, makes me want to see Iron Man 3 and I hope the sequel improves on the original.

Well I didn’t expect it to be this big and epic, it was a lot of fun and IMO true “comicy”. People tend to compare it with Nolan’s batman but I think they are very different in the way they adapt the comics. While one shy from being a comic and try the realism approach, the other embrace it (I love them equally BTW ).
I’m interested to know how people who didn’t watch the previous five films think of it!!
So to answer your simple question: Yes, for me it did!

It's like saying that a grade 10 track student is a better 100 metre sprinter than an Olympic gold medalist in the event because the Olympic athlete had to sprint 200 metres in the 100 metre race against the grade 10 student. The only fair comparison is to have the two runners (films) have the exact same distance to cover (number of releases) in order to have a proper comparative point of reference in gauging their success (box office totals).
The way I've got it figured, the Avengers will pass 600M next (not this) weekend making it #2 on the all time domestic charts (1st releases). On the Tuesday after that, every movie out there is going to take a big box office hit when SpiderMan is released. It has been one heckuva run and makes me wonder what would have happened given a December release and not a whole lot of competition for 2-3 months (like Avatar and Titanic). Avatar had Sherlock Holmes and Book of Eli early and fairly early on, as I recall, but not much after that until "Alice in Wonderland" was released.

If you include Titanic's 3D release earlier this year, then it's north of $658M.

And the next time I decide to compare apples and oranges, I will

If Avengers gets a re-release, I would look at the 658M "domestic" number (impressive re-release numbers by Titanic world wide by the way).

not sure if this has been covered or not, but rumors of a directors cut re-release were squashed. Whedonesque tracked the origin of the rumor and how internet and media outlets picked it up and exaggerated and twisted it. Ain't happening. Never was. You may see Disney push it back into more theaters in late summer or early fall for a small boost, but there will be no "directors cut". Whedon is adamant that the theatrical version IS the DC.

I may actually see this a 3rd time next month in between Spider-Man and Batman, if it's still in local theatres then.

No DC or extended version is cool with me. I would be most likely to see it again just in advance of a new CA/Thor film. Especially if it followed the timeline of the end of the Avengers (esp Thor)....would "love" to see what happens back in Asgard when Loki and Thor return. Sending Thor back to earth opens a lot of doors for ALL kinds of follow ups (What's that devious step bro working up there in Asgard??).

Whew!!! Love those comics and have a lot of them.

Wonder how many times Blu-Benny's seen it now, I want to see it at least one more time before the BD release but with all the summer releases on the way, not sure if it will happen. Twice so far to date.
