So there is no 5.1 directors cut version? I can't stand the dialogue coming out of the front L&R speakers, with 2.0.

The film was originally released in stereo. This release is fantastic - no DNR, an extremely high bit rate, the full length director's cut and it's region free. I really recommend it.

Well maybe I'll check it out. I mean I know it was originally stereo but I always play the 5.1 tracks, unless they absolutely suck. Where't the cheapest to get it? Anywhere cheaper than Amazon.fr?

The German edition is definitely the cheapest for ten euros:

The British disc is currently seven pounds but only has Dolby Digital Stereo. I think it was an oversight by Fox as all their other Brazil releases have lossless audio:

Fox made an international disc with lots of different languages and subtitles. The only one without lossless sound is the British one, as that was the first released. Personally, I love the French digibook - I think it looks fantastic.

many receivers can give you a "fake" 5.1 track from the 2.0 no problem.
would be somewhat close to what you are looking for, but, of course, no discreet surround action.

+1 on that. A lot more pricey than the UK one but if you love the film there is no choice really!

Other than extras (which I am not interested in), I find it hard to imagine how much better Criterion could do with this film. I'm so pleased with this purchase.

It's funny because I am not interested in packaging at all normally but this release is so covetable. Somehow the Digibook makes the film more special - strange, isn't it?

Im not really a collector but I will push the boat out for classic films. Brazil is definitely one of them!
