Default Reptile Owners Thread

Do we have any reptile owners here that own snakes, turtles, geckos or even frogs as pets?

2 weeks ago LeAnn and I attended a Reptile show at the university and I picked up a 2 month old crested gecko that weighed just about 3 grams. LeAnn got one as well that's probably 6 months old and weighs about 10 grams. Currently have an Exo Terra terrarium (12x12x18), and I just bought a bigger terrarium from Petsmart last Friday which was on sale for $80 (18x18x24). I just about bought all the supplies I need when it gets bigger. So far my gecko is too young to determine if it's male or female. Besides, I'm not good a naming things.

Not quite the same, but just bought a tarantula. I had one years ago. It's a chilean rose hair. I'll post pics next time. Here's a stock picture.

A good mate of mine loves reptiles. He actually used to work at a reptile park about an hour from where I live. His duties included looking after the crocodiles and venomous snakes, and also had to milk the snakes venom. After a couple years an opportunity come up for him to work in the area that takes care of the spiders owned by the park, which also meant he had to milk Funnel Web spiders for venom. He's since moved on from that profession, he's now a professionally qualified chef and makes good money doing it. Animals, mainly reptiles are still his biggest hobby and has hundreds of photo's of himself holding or with all sorts of animals on his Facebook page.

I think they're the coolest pet outside of snakes. Low maintenance. Very quiet.

I'm a former reptile owner. At one time, I've had...

A 12' Burmese Python that I raised from a hatchling (Hoping he's not wandering the Everglades)

A California King

A Savannah Monitor

Several ball pythons

Several Colombian redtails

A Cook's Island Tree Boa

A Green Eyelash Viper

A Chinese Water Dragon

A Western Diamondback Rattler

Various other herps

And my last one who I gave to a breeder was a a big, beautiful, sweet 10 year old male leopard gecko, Lestat.

I've had a fascination with reptiles since I was little, but I married a woman who absolutely won't have them in the house...at all. But she's sweet so it was a good trade. Perhaps one day, when we have kids, I can talk her into it.

I think LeAnn has a serial killer gecko. Thing was very aggressive yesterday and I'm hesitant to handle it now. First time it started attacking the spoon, and he actually bit her. She has a video of it and I wanted to post it on You Tube but she wouldn't let me. I'll sneak it in and post it here. It strikes like a snake.

I hope when mine gets bigger it doesn't turn out to be aggressive since crested geckos are not known to act aggressive. That's basically the reason why I got one and their low maintenance.

no sneaking in videos Mac... Yea he was randomly really aggressive. I think he had just had enough of being handled. This morning he was fine and only vocalized a little.

Obviously...

I was thinking something much smaller, say a Ball Python or even a lizard.
