Carnival of Souls 3D Conversion Review 2012:
I originally posted this Review in longer form back in early June 2012, before the site crash where 2 months of posts/threads were lost since (about) April 14, 2012 unfortunately. Quick Review of Carnival of Souls 3D: Reviewed from AVI side by side 3D files on a 3DTV. Converting a single frame from 2D to 3D can take an hour or more for a beginner, but just imagine converting thousands of frames into 3D, for a feature length movie, and doing a solid job of it for convincing 3D... By one person? Carnival of Souls 3D was originally converted from the 2D black and white source material (public domain film) and it's an above average 3D conversion. I can say the 3D is well done and better than some of the so called 2D to 3D conversions done by studios with a team of 20 or more. In practically every shot, you can see the 3D layers, depth and dimension even in the characters. I was impressed with what has been done here, but even more so by the fact that Gaetano, who is a member on this forum, single-handedly converted the entire film from 2D to 3D, having spent many months to finish the 3D film. The film itself, about a lone woman who begins seeing dead people more and more each day while becoming invisible to the world she knows, is enhanced by the above average 3D conversion. The film source, which is an older film, so it's not as sharp as modern films can be, and with shades of black, gray, white, it can be hard to decide where a person's black suit shoulder begins since it's blended right in with the black background, so to be able to convert this with thousands of frames takes great care and trial and error. There are some conversion imperfections as would be expected with such an effort, such as some moments of warping around characters and the edge of one side of the screen at times, but the majority of the conversion looks good I'm happy to say. If you're looking for a classic horror film in 3D, definitely consider Carnival of Souls 3D for purchase. I really enjoyed the film and 3D conversion. Well done! ![]() Here is a link to the film: http://2d23dconversions-carnivalofsouls3d.blogspot.com/ Last edited by Zivouhr; 06-14-2012 at 03:33 AM. |

Cool. I'm working on a DVD-R series of films in the public domain with anaglyph 3D, the Green / Magenta like used on the Blu-ray for My Bloody Valentine 3D. I converted Horror Express and it looks pretty good.

DVDFab's 2D to 3D converter for the conversion. I did a round of cleaning up the video in Sony Vegas and blew it up to 720p from the 480 source. I added more a blue tint to it which shows better at the end of the film. I might do a Blu-ray (in anaglyph 3D - 720p) in the future once I get my studio off the ground, but, for now; we're going to keep it DVD-R. It's possible we might have my film print of Nosferatu converted to 3D as well. But, that's only if the print takes up less than 25GB on the disc.
And I was working on Gamera Vs Barugon in 3D. ![]() I stopped work on it even though I might redo it from the German DVD and re-sync the English audio. TRAUMATIC POSSESSION 2D: THE TAPE - UNRATED

Horror Express with Christopher Lee is a favorite horror movie of mine. I'd like to see it in 3D. Any links for it?
I have to watch Carnival of Souls 3D again when I get a chance. |
