I'm impressed as hell with the little Seiki bugger right now, my Panasonic BD65 locked up and had a seizure when I tried to play a scratched DVD, that would skip heavily on my old LG DVD player. The Seiki only skipped 3 times, and just for a second each time, and otherwise played fine. score one for cheap Chinese junk. |

originally regionA now plays only region B even when change appears done on screen. no updates done.Seems like code does not initiate a response. have not attempted to interfere with dvd zone which is set at 0.Any similar experience?

After deciding whether or not to spend $50 on an import Blu from Australia, and then finding out there is a German import available for $13 with the same PQ/AQ, I've decided to spend the money on a region free player and the German disc. Of course, I'm looking for the cheapest thing possible and came across this thread. A question for those in the know, is this player (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Insignia-NS-...item2ebd30b172) a good buy? Any other opinions? I'm not looking to spend more than $80 or so and that one is the perfect price...

Thanks for the quick response. So, once I have the player linked above, I need to just revert to older firmware right? And it will play all regions?

I personally use one of these rattlebyte chips with my Panasonic DMP BD-80.
The Soldering was easy, then again I've done a fair bit of soldering before. it's a brilliant mod that all you have to do is put the player to standby and hit 1 ,2 or 3 to change the blu-ray region it appears on the display. Unfortunately most of these players are hard to find now and the panasonic drives are pretty noisy. You can get modified firmware for alot of panasonic players now which is much easier for alot of people, there are mod chips for many more players but alot of them are truly jobs for pro's and therefore expensive mods. I have found a used Panasonic BD30 at a reasonable price.. Is this model recommended or is it simply too old? Will I have firmware issues or would it be a good purchase?

I've just bought and received a TOSHIBA BDX1250 Region free player (automatic for DVD, a code for Blu-ray region) from 220 volt Electronics and it works like a charm with all my blu-rays Region B and PAL DVDs. The price is good: 113$ after 5% rebate.
http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/T...lti_region.htm (they talk about a BDX1200 but it's a BDX1250 that I received) After taxes and shipping, with a stop to canadian customs (30$ cad), I paid 175$. It comes with a HDMI cable and cleaning solution for LCD and monitor screens for free. The player is an entry level (buttons are hard to push, on the remote too) but image quality is perfect. As second blu player (I've got a panasonic BDT210 for main), I am really satisfied. Last edited by inikad; 08-27-2012 at 12:54 PM. |
