I agree. The people who drive up the price are the ones who can afford it. The people who can't afford it will just by the play.com release. The demand by the people who have the money still out number the supply.

I don't own the Iron Man FS exclusive.
I don't own any Iron Man 1 steelbook, only the German Iron Man 2 steelbook.

I personally just see this as a great opportunity for people wanting the first Iron Man film in a SteelBook to pick it up for a regular price. I would have picked up the FS one, had it not gone up in price to ridiculous amounts in the thousands. I wouldn't pay those amounts for a Steel, some people would, we're all different. I do think that some owners of the FS steel are feeling slightly bitter towards this release, I mean I would be too if I had paid a great amount for something rare and in high demand for it to be re-produced (albeit different). Hey, that's the world of collecting. Enjoy whichever copy you have!

Everyone keeps saying that. But, it's a case made of some form of metal with awesome artwork on it. As a collector of releases meeting those 2 requirements, I don't give a sh!t if it's a steelbook, ironpak, metalpak, nickelbook, iridiumpak, or adamantiumbook. The thing will look and feel awesome.

I really don't understand the proliferation of the "only SCANOVO makes a good product" mentality.

Made no mention at all of the quality of the product. It's not a steelbook. No need to get so wound up.

Just because it's "a case made of some form of metal" doesn't make it a Steelbook.

Steelbook is a brand, owned and trademarked by Scanavo. Sure, there have been some ace MetalPaks, Iron Packs and Viva cases, but that doesn't make them Steelbooks.

My point is that they are all in the same category, which to the general public is the category known as "steelbooks." Everything beyond that is silly semantics for overly zealous collectors to get prejudice about. "It's not a steelbook! I'm not buying it."

I use the term for exactly that. A category that includes any metal packaging.

P.S. Not wound up. Just calmly stating my perspective.

Surely the category would be "metal cases" and then Steelbook would be a case type within that as would MetalPak and the Viva cases etc.?

I have plenty of the Disney Iron packs and their later metal cases. If I like it, I'll buy it. I'm not fussed of the branding.

In the UK we tend to call all vacuum cleaners, hoovers, even though Hoover is a brand name of 1 vacuum cleaner company.

That said, to me, a steelbook is a steelbook, not a metalpak or other metal-based case. Although I suspect I and many others still call any plastic case an amaray, even though Amaray is a brand not a product.

This is my point. It's the same thing with nose tissue. Everyone calls ANY tissue Kleenex even though Kleenex is a brand.

Cars are more commonly advertised and exposure to brands is infinite for consumers. The Blu-ray metallic cases don't have that exposure. Therefore there will always be a large percentage of consumers who consider a metallic case a steelbook. I'm not gonna bother trying to fight it because it's an impossible situation.

I agree that it is a brand. But, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to try and fight the mislabel. Can't beat 'em... join 'em.

the FutureShop version had half of the IronMan helmet on the right hand side of the front, so it's not the same!

it is identical to the DVD steelbook!
