Moving into my new place next. Rather than buy a big awkward display I figured I would go for something more convenient. Ive been looking at the Epson 3010. Is this the best projector for the price? Also im planning on displaying it on a blank wall is that a problem? Here are some photos of the room:

That room will be horrible for a projector as is. The light will be bouncing off the tile like crazy. Plan on putting some dark carpeting down and painting the surrounding walls and ceiling a darker color. Black out curtains for the window and you should be all set.
PS. Get a screen or plan on doing some surface prep to your walls and spending a lot of time researching a good paint mix. |

Yea I was planning on getting a rug for the room. As you can see the window has a curtain rod so I plan on getting one. I also failed to mention that the entrance to the room has a glass tile door. I'm guessing with a good curtain over that I should be able to blacken out the room quite nicely.
Also not visible in the photo are the window shutters that open out. They really block out alot of light. Here is another picture from the bathroom that shows the shutters. Each window has one.

It converts an active 3D projector to passive 3D. It's $1,500, but it does not require a second projector and extensive calibration. It works like the z-Screen technology that switches polarization from the source, instead of the glasses.

I was only stating it just in case someone wanted a single lens passive 3D projector. Some people prefer passive, I was only naming it as a option. Not everyone is a penny pincher. Some have a little extra to spend. I think 3k is a great price for a passive projector setup.

The price on the Epson 3010 at amazon is just right for me. Unless someone has some other amazing deal I'm set on getting this soon.

If your unlucky enough to fit both into this category and that of a person who wishes to own a 3D projector, then this device sounds perfect for you. For everyone else it's an expensive paperweight... Movie night, everyone's invited, bring your own glasses?

Even though I have the big brother of the 3010, you'll really enjoy it, especially at that price. And don't listen to "every little thing" (laying down dark carpet, painting your walls and ceiling) everyone says about needing to do this and do that. If so, you'll land up not even buying it. Of course all of the things people are telling you would enhance your picture quality, but you'll still love the upgrade from a TV. Do that stuff later if you feel you "must" do it. Blacking out the windows though is necessary. Good luck man!

That's correct, this contraption gives full 1080p passive image....its basically putting the active shutter glasses on the PJ lense so that it polarizes L,R differently....but you would need to plunk in another $500 or so on a special silver screen that can preserve the polarization of the images.....

I'm currently looking at an epson too for my theater room (5010e model). And will also be projecting it on the wall, but I've read a lot of reviews that say that if you just shine it on a regular white wall, you loose some of the clarity and color definition. You may want to consider painting a screen with screen paint. It'll be a little costly, but you will have an actual screen and you will gain the full effect of your projector. Some paints go for 150 to 200, but it's still cheaper than the alternative. I've also seen some people use Behr Silverscreen, but I hear that in comparison to actual screen paint, the Behr only provided subpar results and lost some of the color vibrancy and contrast.
I think I'm getting my paint from here, unless someone can recommend a cheaper site, this site seems to have the cheapest I can find. Good luck http://www.markertek.com/A-V-Project...al-Paint.xhtml |

I'm new here and this is my first post.
A quick background on me so you'll know where I'm coming from. I'm retired from motion picture industry having owned and operated 11 theatres in the southern US. I have a screening room in my home where I primarily project 35mm motion pictures. I run film on 6,000 foot reels on a Century JJ 35/70mm projector with a Super LumeX 2,000 watt xenon lamphouse. My sound system consist of a Dolby CP500 digital processor, QSC amps, JBL 3000 series cinema speakers including two JBL 4000 series 18" subs and klipsch surronds. I run a lot of 35mm 3D polarized film so my screen is a mini-perf, silver version and measures 10.5' X 5'. I run perfect theatrical ratios with constant height and side movable masking. I added a Epson 8100 projector a couple of years ago and for Blu Rays (2D) it does a great job. With the increased activity in the classic Blu Ray department and with the promise of classics like Dial M, House of Wax and others I've decided to replace the 8100 with a upgraded model. After reading for hours yesterday and comparing models, I've decided on the Epson 5010 model. It's so close to the 6010 the 1K reduced price makes a lot of sense to me. Can any of you home theatre guys/gals give me any GOOD reason for NOT buying a 5010? Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing what you all have to offer. |
