Hooray! Akijama, you and I have the same taste in films!
Edit - Studio Canal have released some absolute duds - Emma and The Talented Mr Ripley in particular. I'm going to wait and see reviews for the transfer before buying. Last edited by James78; 06-15-2012 at 01:29 AM. |

Just wanted to ask if anyone had bought this? It seems pretty expensive so i was wondering if it was worth it.

Thanks for the comments folks. Having finally found this at a not too ridiculous price I'm giving it a go. If anyone is interested I'll let you know what its like when I get it.

Just wanted to update this as I received the disc through and watched it the other night. Overall I'm quite happy with it. You can select the English language track without any forced German subs. The picture quality is pretty good and I was watching it through a full HD projector. There was some nice low grain over it all and no obvious heavy DNR anywhere that i could see. Perhaps the odd bit of slight edge enhancement here and there but nothing distracting. Some of the shots are disappointingly soft, particularly the shots of the icy outside towards the end. Its never going to be a reference disc though as the colour palette is muted and the sound is pretty solidly at the front with very little ambience (there are some very subtle wind effects though so the soundtrack is a good reflection of the way its meant to be).
Extras are almost negligible with a few short cast interviews only lasting about 2 minutes each (if that!) and a trailer for the film in German. Its probably the kind of film that doesn't really benefit much from an upgrade but, if you're a fan, its probably the best the film will look. |
