Sounds like you have the HDMI control feature on, if the TV went off too.

Well guy's I pulled the plug and replaced my Aiwa surround sound reciever, thanks to my fiance, with a new Denon AV Reciever. Over the past few weeks I had looked at many AVR's but settled on the Denon. It has all the features I need and even with my weak speakers its awsome. So after 2 plus years of talking about it I went and did it and its about time. Great start to the year. New home theater setup and now a new Denon AVR has been added. Next up is the speakers to go with it. I am one happy SOB!

Can't believe I've never noticed this thread before. I've been a Denon owner for ~14 years now I still have my first Denon AVR-3300 its alive and kicking though in a box now since I upgraded to the AVR-4310ci awhile back. I really like the performance of the 4310 and its a step up for sure but I just can't get used to the GUI. Thankfully you don't have to spend much time in it.

Thanks victor. It was a long time coming and a big difference maker as far as sound coming from Blu ray movies is concerned. Movies sound a millions times better then when I had my old AVR.

I also own a Denon AVR 1909. We are considering buying a 3D TV to go with our 3D blu-ray player, but I read something about how receivers with HDMI 1.3a connections like the 1909's can't display 3D TV unless the connection is a pass-through. I'm not sure if ours is or not... Can someone explain this to me?
Thanks! |

It's upgrade time! And when you buy new speakers you just have to buy a new AVR to drive them, am I right? I just pulled the trigger on the 4311. At $1,299 I just coudn't resist.
Now who wants to buy a used Onkyo TX-SR606?

All the new denon receivers talk about upscaling the DVD picture. I am confused.
It's probably really dumb of me, but I would have thought that you send the display signal from the bluray direct to the monitor, and the sound goes out to the receiver, and that's how it works...? I thought you relied on your Bluray player for upscaling? Why would you want a receiver to be in the middle of the image output and the display? |

I would have thought it was better for the pure signal to be sent directly to the monitor. What is wrong with that thinking? |

As far as the audio goes, theoretically your audio will be better because HDMI is able to pass Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD whereas optical or digital coax will downgrade those to the lossy version. So to get the best audio you need to use HDMI or analog. If your player doesn't have analog outs then you would need an HDMI audio out and an HDMI video out to get the best audio. I'm sure there is someone here who could do a better job of explaining, but that's my take on it.

Video can be upscaled by the player, receiver, or display. People generally rely on the player or the display. But, there's no reason why the receiver can't be used for that purpose. Most AVRs that offer upscaling also have settings to pass the video through unmolested.
With Blu-ray, you generally need to run HDMI from the player to the AVR instead of using a direct connection to the display. The reason is lossless audio, which is not supported over older S/PDIF connections. Unlike analog, there's no loss of video quality when routing it through an AVR. |

Im having issues w/ my iTunes not reading my Denon 3312CI.
Somewhere in the last month it hasnt connected. Ive played w/ the firewalls, home-sharing,network standby off/on, and network setup/options. My next task will be rebooting my router. Anyone have this issue? |

Just picked up a 1912, and I ran both directv and bluray through receiver, but the picture quality seems to have changed radically. I am seeing a red push and what I would consider a downgrade in overall pq. Any ideas why?
