Do the white dots appear with any particular discs that may need a clean- Are they all from the same studio?

Installed the region free kit today and it worked perfect. I watched Repo Man Region B then switched back and watched a Region A disc. Not one problem.

I had trouble with Cleopatra disc 2 (region free U.K.) not playing on my BDP-95 with current firmware. Wiped persistent storage and reset factory defaults and was still a no go. Took the disc out and tried it in my LG BD390(current firmware (9/2011) and it thought for about 2 minutes and then played it so I took it back to the Oppo and bingo it played. WTF?

I'm trying to record songs off cds from the 93 to minidisc. Some albums, I only want certain songs. Is there a way to enter track numbers and play them only ? I've done it with other players, didn't see anything in the manual.

The OPPO BDP-93 is not compatible with Dexter season 4 and season 5 when BD-LIVE network access is turned on

I just reported the following problem to OPPO Digital INC and hopefully they will fix this issue with a future firmware update:

When playing Dexter season 4 Blu-ray (UPC code: 097360772647) and season 5 Blu-ray ( UPC code: 097361399645) on a Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray player with BD-LIVE network access enabled those titles play just fine with no loading problems.

However when playing Dexter season 4 and season 5 on a OPPO BDP-93 Blu-ray player with BD-Live network access “ON”, those titles lock up and go to a black screen after briefly showing a blue bar graph. I tried both firmware version 0707 and the latest BETA firmware version 0805B with the same results. The only way to get the discs to play is to disable BD live network access. Turning off BD-LIVE network access in the OPPO BD-93 is not a solution to the problem since the discs play just fine on other brands of Blu-ray players with BD LIVE network access on. I have never needed to disable BD-LIVE before to get a title to play. Also Dexter season 5 has all extra features on BD-LIVE instead of the studio placing the extras on disc. So BD-LIVE access is very important for this Blu-ray series.
I just verified that this problem I reported to OPPO Digital Inc long ago is still an issue. I installed the new firmware version BDP9x-66-0413 and both Dexter season 4 and season 5 on Blu-ray has the exact same problem as mentioned before. Now I wonder if OPPO Digital INC will every fix this problem when playing select Showtime Blu-ray discs.

I received this email from OPPO Digital INC that says they are still investigating the problems with the OPPO BDP-93 when playing certain titles with BD-LIVE (mainly some Showtime Blu-ray's).

The BD-LIVE feature on the OPPO Blu-ray players (especially the 93 and 95) has problems with some Blu-ray discs

My family members own 4 OPPO BDP-93 Blu-ray players and overall they are the best or one of the best Blu-ray players under $500 in terms of overall quality. However when it comes to the BD-LIVE feature on some Blu-ray titles the OPPO BDP-93 is one of the worse performing Blu-ray players that I have experienced. I had a long email discussion with OPPO Digital INC and I explained to them that when BD-LIVE access is turned on in the OPPO BDP-93 menu that some Showtime Blu-ray discs would not load to the main menu at all (which makes the BD-LIVE feature unusable for those titles since one has to turn off BD-LIVE in order to get the discs to load). The Panasonic and Sony Blu-ray players for under $100 will load the Showtime Blu-ray titles just fine with full BD-LIVE access to the bonus material.

Since this issue has been going on for a long time I even offered to send the Blu-ray titles to OPPO Digital INC so they could write a firmware update to fix the problem. OPPO Digital INC informed me that they already own the Blu-ray titles that I offered to have them borrow and they are aware of the OPPO BDP-93 not working with a wide range of Blu-ray titles that use BD-LIVE (Mostly some Showtime titles). OPPO Digital INC explained to me that the BD-LIVE problems sometimes are less of an issue when external storage is used instead of internal storage. I was already aware of that when I did extensive testing with the old OPPO BDP-83. Anyways I am using a 2TB e-sata hard drive formatted as FAT32 for BD-LIVE which works great for most Blu-ray titles that are placed inside the OPPO BDP-93. On 95% of the Blu-ray titles I have used the OPPO BDP-93 works fine, its just on a few select Showtime titles that do not work at all with BD-LIVE.For those titles the Panasonic and Sony Blu-ray players will work fine 100% of the time. So for now I am forced to use my Panasonic Blu-ray player for some select Blu-ray titles when I want to use the BD-LIVE feature. If and when OPPO Digital INC gets this problem fixed it will be a much better Blu-ray player. Every time the latest firmware update occurs, I re-test the OPPO BDP-93 to see if this problem has been resolved. I am starting to give up hope that OPPO Digital INC will resolve this issue.

** The BD-LIVE feature for Dexter season 4 works perfectly fine on the old OPPO BDP-83, but on the new OPPO BDP-93 Dexter season 4 and 5 will not load at all when BD-LIVE network access is on. This is a problem that could be fixed by the OPPO Digital INC software engineers. **

The following is a quote from OPPO Digital INC response to their BD-LIVE software problems that they are still investigating (Also it should be noted that I am using external storage for BD-LIVE which is more reliable compared to internal storage):

quote from email response:

“We appreciate your willingness to send us the discs for media compatibility testing, however, we will not need you to send the Dexter discs. We have confirmed that Dexter Season 4 and 5 have already been ordered as of November 11th, 2011.

Even if these discs had not been purchased, the errors you are experiencing with Dexter Season 4 and Season 5 are not exclusive to these series of Blu-rays. We report and log every disc that a customer reports as having issues related to BD-LIVE access and Persistent Storage errors, and we regularly purchase many of these discs to create log reports. These log reports are then shared among our internal engineers and the external engineers are our decoding partner, MediaTek.

Unfortunately at this time we do not have any solutions for your specific errors. In our own testing the majority of issues related to BD-LIVE access and Persistent Storage errors have been isolated to the internal storage. Switching to external USB storage has shown to resolve these kind of errors. We know the internal storage in the player is the root cause of these errors, but we have not found a reliable means to resolve it through software. Both the BDP-83 and the BDP-93 received firmware last summer to resolve these errors, and preliminary testing showed it to be successful, but now that more discs are using the Persistent Storage for information other than basic breakpoints, we are finding that once again we are experiencing BD-LIVE and Persistent Storage errors across a wide range of Blu-ray media.

Best Regards,

Customer Service
OPPO Digital, Inc.”

I have had good results with the OPPO BDP-93 and BD-LIVE on most Blu-ray discs (no loading issues). It’s just a few Showtime titles that the OPPO does not work with BD-LIVE. I wish Showtime would place the extra features for TV series on a dedicated Blu-ray disc, but instead they use BD-LIVE for some titles.
I am glad I have a Panasonic Blu-ray player to play those Showtime titles that the OPPO BDP-93 will not play.

Progress being made on the OPPO BDP-93 BD-LIVE issue with Showtime titles

OPPO Digital INC today has verified there is a problem on the way the OPPO BDP-93 handles BD-LIVE on select Blu-ray titles. Progress is being made now.

Quote from OPPO Digital INC

“We have confirmed that both Dexter Season 4 and Season 5 will not load with BD-LIVE Access being set to On on the BDP-93, while these two season load properly on the BDP-83.

We have updated our bug report database to reflect these findings.

Best Regards,

Customer Service

This thread has now been restored with most or some of my posts

Blu-ray.com had a database lost where around 7 weeks of forum posts were completely lost.

At the High-Def Digest website most of my posts are an exact duplicate or very similar to the posts at Blu-ray.com. I restored my personal posts that were lost at Blu-ray.com with posts from the High-Def website which is like a running backup in case there is a server data loss.

Default New oppo for 2012??

I was over at AVSforum.com and stumbled upon this and thought i would share it:

Are there any upcoming shows they would be likely to show the new model?
