Default Who else doesn't have cable?

If you are one like me who chooses not to use a cable provider like directv/comcast/dish etc. and mainly only watches movies and plays games, how often do you do it?

I have a tendency to watch a gazillion movies and sometimes only one particular movie many times. I still prefer to use only Hulu which is through internet to watch basically only 4 actual TV shows (all animated) since one I loved (House) had its series finale recently.

If you do have cable, which one, and why do you think its best?

I do not have cable/dish or anything.....I'm 33 years old and never had it in my whole life........

I watch movies, and thats about it.....but I don't spend a lot of time doing that either....I really only watch tv for the news, and I can get that with regular tv.

I've been without cable for two years and have enjoyed every minute of it and the extra money in my wallet. Netflix an iTunes are my main sources of entertainment now

We don’t have cable/dish @ our house either. I keep trying to talk my wife into it though.

There are probably ½ a dozen shows we watch once the fall tv season starts. If there’s nothing on @ night that we want to watch, we tend to watch tv season dvd’s….friends, how I met your mother, modern family, the big bang theory.

We tend to only watch movies on Tuesday night when/if something new comes out that we both want to watch, otherwise I’ll stay up late and watch it. We also watch a movie on Friday & Saturday nights.

Gave up on cable/satellite a long time ago.

Got an HD antenna (OH YEAH!) for NFL games. Looks even better than what cable broadcasts.

The OTA choices here are almost nonexistent, so we have no choice but to have cable. I love sports and couldn't imagine not watching Hockey, Baseball and Football.
Cable is essential for me.

I only have cable because my fiancee enjoys it. If left to my own choosing I would just have internet access, everything I can want is on the net. Although having to wait for shows to hit netflix hulu etc gets a lil old at times.

I've been with Time Warner Cable/Road Runner since I moved to the US. I won't say it's the best, only because I'm not fond of my other cable options (or satellitle, for that matter). My monthly bill is pretty high (over $150 before taxes); thankfully, I don't have a monthly cell phone bill to worry about, or I'd be broke.

We have cable and DIRECTV, but I've decided disconnect the beadroom TV. I find once I turn it on, the rest of the evening is gone and I'll get nothing done. I use it for watching movies only. As for the service providers, their content is OK, but their technical expertise in connecting equipment needs to catch up with the digital times. They are still using the analogue RF and composite video outputs in my area

We had Dish Network and were paying over $100/month for it. It starts out fairly reasonable, then they get you for $5 extra here or $10 extra there and then add on all the taxes and fees and before you know it your bill is through the roof. We finally decided to drop it a little over a year ago IIRC. Now we have Netflix for $8/month and Hulu Plus for $8/month and we don't feel like we're missing anything. I may at some point put up an antenna for the free over-the-air local channels that are digital just to keep up with the weather and whatnot, but that's not a priority.

We're down to bare bones basic cable with Comcast. We've been so since upgrading the tv's and to BD's. When it comes to our son, Netflix is our friend. Anyway, we've discussed just getting rid of the bare bones too and sticking to strictly internet. Seems Comcast is the best in our area when it comes to that.

Most of us agree then that the prices are just too steep. I believe Directv is at least 130$ alone, and of course the rest are probably up there as well. I sure wish Hulu would get some better movie selections though, I am considering getting Netflix alongside it.

If I was single I would drop Directv. Its nice but I hardly watch anything on it - the things I do watch I can stream online.

My mother and sister have (very) basic cable, and sometimes I'll watch reruns with them. Otherwise, its all games and movies for me, aside from the computer of course.

We have Comcast digital cable and internet. Bill is $150 a month. I don't mind it too much because we split it and both watch a fair amount of TV. She's the "lounge on the couch in front of the tube" type and I'm the "I watch this, this, and this - DVR, do your thing!" type.

I won't deal with anyone BUT Comcast for internet though. I do far too much online to be crippled. The 250GB monthly cap is crippling enough as-is. I'm debating Business Class in order to skirt it, but I think that's a situation of the cost outweighing the benefits.
