From what I've seen, Wingnut didn't use digital fonts for either the title screens for the films or the signs seen in the films themselves; Peter Jackson employed an in-house calligrapher to do that work, so it all had that hand-crafted look.

So no font is going to match them exactly, but the font RingBearer, created by Pete Klassen, comes pretty close. There's a whole range of Tolkienish fonts for free non-commercial use on Klassen's site at http://www.thehutt.de/tolkien/fonts.html, if that helps.

I already have quite a few fonts inspired by the films, but none of them are a match (and I'm a stickler for detail). The closest one I've seen is called Viking, but some of the letters are off in it.

You're welcome, everyone.

While I was hunting for screens, I confirmed my opinion that FotR and Rotk have the best transfers. There's just way too much softness for my tastes with TTT.

If you look at the title screens on all 3 movies, none of those match exactly either. The letter "T" in all 3 movies are different.

I also noticed that TTT and RotK have some sort of canvas-like quality to the text. The FotR text is just smooth.

Agreed!

But let's not forget the title screen for the theatrical FotR, which I feel is the best looking one of them all.

Can someone post thumbs of all four of them together please.

OK, I'm going to say it: look at the difference in colour of the lettering between FotR theatrical and FotR EE!

I have not watched my EE Blu-Ray on my new TV yet. Need to get around to doing that soon.

Weird, I thought RotK:EE had a different title from the TE.

Edit: Wonder why they couldn't place the text for Fellowship in the same place on the screen.

Not much to stand on there ... one is inside and the other is outside, I think that kind of forces a change in the lighting of the letters.

I'm sure they had the text floating in the scene and the DP adjusted the light for it.

The EE has the "Concerning Hobbits" chapter, and to wait more than five minutes later for the titles would have been weird. At least that's my guess.

Haha, well even a digitally made title will be subject to the lighting of the scene as it is filmed. All you can really do is adjust the lighting digitally and it will either brighten the title or make it darker. At least that's the way it was then. I am a bit behind in new technology in terms of lighting and such on a computer.

Oh, I meant that the placement of the text is shifted a tad to the left.

You're being tongue in cheek, surely?
