So we're having the first heat wave of the summer, with temps in the upper 90's along with that lovely Pennsylvania humidity - and all of a sudden my air conditioning seemed to stop working. I came home from work yesterday, it was about 98 degrees outside; I had set my thermostat up to 75 degrees while I was away during the day - and when I got home from work and walked in the house it was 88 degrees inside and the AC was running constantly without stopping, and blowing luke-warm air. Same story today - I set the thermostat lower, to 73 degrees, so it was only 85 degrees inside when I got home... been running the AC all evening non-stop, and it is still 81 degrees upstairs, and 78 in the basement.

So the A/C system is 5 years old, I figured it probably needs a cleaning and service, maybe a recharge. Then I was watching the local evening news tonight, and saw a report on people in neighboring York County all up in arms over some power-saving module the electric company had been offering to install on their systems to cut back on electric use during high use periods, for a monetary reward for those who chose to participate. Seems the modules were not working, they're supposed to cycle the A/C off and on more often, but evidently screwing up and now everybody's A/C is also not working. The news report also mentioned that the power company in Lancaster County where I live has a similar program going.

Then I remembered - hey, I think I signed up for that program about two months ago, popped the "no postage required" postcard back in the mail to the power company to sign up. They were offering something like $75 back at the end of the cooling season. With my A/C on full all summer, it only adds about $30 a month to my bill, so I figured hey, I can get just about free AC for the entire summer! Cool!

So I went outside to my A/C unit, and there it was - a very large, nasty looking power module attached to the outside unit and to the side of my house. What friggin' good is $75 back if my dang A/C doesn't work at all! Those slimy B@#&tards!!

SO, I gotta put up with the heat tonight, Customer Service is 8-5, except for the 24 hr emergency outage number, which tonight is on eternal hold music - they're probably getting swamped with angry calls! Tomorrow I'll be on the warpath, they are first going to turn that damn module OFF, and then completely remove it as soon as they can get out here...

Morning Trorrier....like what I did there? Hope you were able to get things squared away with the A/C issue. I too saw the same thing on the news and remember getting the offer letter in the mail. Thought to myself "glad I didn't sign up for that!"

Unfortunately, I didn't know that I had a blu-brethren who got caught in the crossfire.

Fortunately, it was no big deal, except for my A/C not working for two days - I called the company Friday morning about 10am, and at 6pm that evening the service guy was ringing my doorbell, and removed the device. So it's gone already!

Good stuff. How was the rest of the weekend? Were you able to get together with John at all on Saturday? I was hoping my plans would fall through given Saturday's heat index of hotter than hell...but no such luck.

No, John and I never made any plans for this weekend, I worked outside on my shed some more, built a 6' wide by 3' treated lumber ramp to drive the tractor mower through the double doors, and mowed the front half of my yard - until I hit a tree root and bent the heck out of my push-mower blade... will have to go buy a new one tonight at the local mower shop...

Only movie I watched over the entire weekend was 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" EE version, a friend came over last night and needed to see that third movie from the Swedish EE Trilogy Box Set... That's the third time I've seen it.

Picked up Drive Angry 3D and Ice Age 3D at Best Buy today, on sale for $19.99 each... I think I broke 50 3D Blu-rays in my collection with those purchases but I'll need to do a physical count tonight to be certain...

Did the same thing two weeks ago, only I hit a metal pipe that I never knew existed nor do I know what it goes to or why its in the ground, it only has a 1" diameter and sticks out about 6-12 inches (that shows how tall I let the grass grow, ha). Unfortunately my local hardware store didn't have the right one in-stock and had to special order it. They offered me a used one until the new one came in, but it appeared to have been more bent than the one I currently have, go figure.

Did you do the "call before you dig" hotline? I called that up and they marked the gas, water, sewer, electric, phone, etc. in my yard for free. I've got flags all over my yard telling me what is buried. It has helped a bunch considering I am all over with my landscaping and digging in my yard.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing, I've dug up former resident's garbage in my yard in the past while landscaping. Because I live in a rural area, one would have to pay for trash pickup and from what I was told the people who used to own this house before us would just dig a hole and dump their garbage in the yard. It's disgusting but for the most part the only thing I've dug up are old car parts, saw blades, nails, and scrap wood. All the lines (gas/electric/phone) are above ground, and I know where the septic lines and water lines are of which I wasn't anywhere close to. I'll probably use my 4-wheeler winch and pull it out of the ground, but right now I just have a cone over it so no one trips over it

I don't want Freytheater3D to think I hijacked his thread, so I'll stopthere

OK, so here's a few boring pics of the shed ramp I built this weekend, in the 90+ degree weather... the ramp uses 4 big lag screws to bolt it to the door stoop, under the top deck board... gotta trim off the pointy ends of the sloped 2x10s and stain the mo'fo' yet...

Nice job FreyTheater3D, did you buy the shed already built or build it yourself?
