some movies (i.e. "Halloween") do try to go back to the genesis of the character & offer more background, for good or ill, and then essentially re-tell the same story. but for something like "Child's Play," i'd personally much rather see Chucky terrorizing an all-new set of characters than simply tormenting another young boy who just loves his new birthday present. been there, done that...

my point is, after a certain number of sequels where the storyline is essentially the same, don't bother rehashing old ideas as a "remake," just call it what it is -- another unoriginal, cash-grabbing sequel
The 2010 A Nightmare on Elm Street was a remake, not a sequel. There's really no debating that. Freddy was chasing after Nancy and a different last name didn't spell, a different character to me. TCM & F13th were remakes as well.

I think that with Friday the 13th, if they changed the part of Jason getting his mask and maybe something else here or there (Hard to say off the top of my head as it's been awhile since I've seen it.) they could have just used the movie as a sequel. The bit in the beginning could have served as a sort of refresher of his backstory.

I get what you're saying about the cash grabbing and just call it a sequel. But generally, if it's a remake, it probably won't be too terribly different from the original or otherwise, you may as well just call it by another name since it'll be a totally different movie.

Alot of it boils down to them opting to try and do a remake to cash in on a built in audience rather then come up with something more original.

They sure are keeping this project top secret. There hasn't been any news since it started filming in September.

I can't wait to see the design for Chucky (I hope he looks more like he did in the first 3 movies). Good to see that Brad Dourif is returning. His daughter Fiona is also in the movie.

They'd be coming up on about 6 weeks of shooting, which is standard for a small budget DTV like this one. Aren't they shooting in Canada? If they're using a lot of interiors, it's unlikely we'll get to see any pics until the film is fully wrapped and promotion begins. I'm fine with it. A lack of spoilery stuff is perhaps an even better way to build anticipation than showing too much of your cards.

My hope is the quality blows the producers away and they consider giving it a theatrical release. Would be fun to see Chucky back on the big screen. With so many of the original players still involved, it's a shame that it's treated like some tenth generation bastardized knock-off, sequel in name only like so many of the once famous franchises have devolved into.

I know I'll catch crap for saying this, but the first one was a beautiful, stand-alone movie. The sequels fell short for me - each and every single one. Charles Lee Ray died in the body of a doll that night he tried to put his soul into Andy's body. The end. End of story.

Now, with that being said, if the trailer looks okay, I might check this out because I do like the Chucky character. I won't get my hopes up, though.

Not to mention director Tom Holland, greatest unsung horror genius of the 80's, who could push an audience's buttons like a grand Steinway.

The other sequels were Don Mancini taking his property and shopping it from producer to producer--And then going solo after MGM dropped the "real" series (after the kid grew up and #3 tanked) and he had to cut all legal ties with the canon and do the weird, goofy "Bride of" spinoffs wherever he could get them going. Sometimes, it's just better to move on.

What?

David Kirschner produced all of them and Universal picked it up after the first movie.

What I am concerned about is that they will have to acknowledge 4 and 5 in some way. Chucky was diced in the rollercoaster fan and Tiffany stitched him together to give him his new iconic look.

While 3 was in production, #4 was supposed to take place at "that old abandoned hospital down the road", unquote, but the studio dropped the sequel series.
When Ronnie Yu picked up Bride Of years later, they had rights to the character but not the sequel canon, which explains why the titles are all "Chucky" and not "Child's Play". (And why he has to have the officially "reimagined" iconic stitch look.)
Which means there's not too much official bridges they can make to #1-3, if they can help it, without just rebooting.

(And as one critic put it, horror sequels are "Like a game of hot potato that keep getting passed around from one producer/concept to another, until you have to reboot the original, and then the game's over" )

She is a slutty looking busty woman and I'd give it all for her. But not watching another Chucky film isn't one of those things.

Brad Doriff (sp?) needs to do the voice work. But maybe we'll be really lucky and they'll cast The Situation from Jersey Shore instead.

I love the first, it's ridiculous and it's just great.
The second was good, but not great, still watchable.
The third was terrible, I mean like why?!
Bride of Chucky is one of my favorites! I just think it's pretty good.
Seed of Chucky was whatever, so yeah.
I'd still buy Seed on Blu-Ray, I dont mind it - and i'd watch it, it was just like watching a Direct to DVD movie.

I hope they put him back into a new Good Guy doll. The whole scar/staples/missing hair look is pretty dumb.
