Haven't seen much discussion (at least my thread search didn't turn up anything) on the press release saying this is for a limited time only. Anyone know what that means?
US/UK films that need to be on blu-ray:Foreign Correspondent (1940, Hitchcock), The Wicker Man (1973, Hardy), Thunderheart (1992, Apted) , Lone Star (1996, Sayles)
Foreign films that need to be on blu-ray: Raise The Red Lantern (1991, Zhang), The Best of Youth (2003, Giordana), Still Life (2006, Jia), 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007, Mungiu) |

I'm going to hold out for some reviews to roll in about the packaging and hopefully a price drop. 209.99 is a lot of change. Even though that's only about 13.99 per title. I own 2 of the titles already and wouldn't mind individual cases. The booklet doesn't bother me either. As I see it there are plenty of collector books available on the subject of Hitchcock that are much nicer. All in all though this is a nice looking package and I am hoping for a nice price reduction to get me off the fence. |

Most likely just a marketing tool. Like others have mentioned, these aren't going to be numbered limited edition releases like Warner's collector's editions for ones like Casablanca and Willy Wonka. I would be surprised if these were hard to get even a couple of years from now.

There are tons of "limited edition" releases that are in print for years and are more than enough to meet demand. I suspect this will be the same -- it's just marketing jargon to increase demand. |

When this drops to $130-ish, count me in. I love Hitchcock and I don't own any of these on Blu-ray, but $14 a title is way too much for me when in reality this is the kind of set my girlfriend and I would really probably only break out on a rainy day. I can't see myself sitting down and taking these movies in all that often, once every couple of years at the most. And actually, $100 might be closer to what I'd be willing to spend. But if it plummets before the release date and I can pick it up in my Gold Box... we'll see.
I have a life and it only moves one direction. Forward.

On the other hand, I might be wrong but Universal still seems to be using photo galleries from the old laserdiscs, with animated title cards ("Lobby Photos") and low-rez images. Seriously, am I the only one who's noticed this? Even the last Jaws 2-disc DVD release features a low-rezzy still gallery with analog artifacts. Last edited by ScottDS; 06-25-2012 at 10:33 PM. |

Yep. the Kubrick box is still available over a year later and it's a 'limited edition'.

The only "Limited Editions" you can count on being truly limited are the numbered ones. If they aren't numbered it is a marketing ploy and they will print up as many as they want nased on demand. |

Here's the digibook thing I was talking about earlier:

That's just IGN misinterpreting things. Also, North by Northwest does not have English mono, only 5.1.

Convinced of what? The discs are housed in a cardboard book-like packaging with slide-in slots. That's not really a digibook.

They are listed as digibook for whatever it's worth. Perhaps some better pictures from Universal would help.

I'm surprised that there isn't a universally acknowledged name for this style of set 'cause I agree that this is not a digibook. I've read some people were going with "book-style" but that just sounds clunky to me.

I think they're just considered Digipaks (or digipacks). The DB here refers to them as such and it does make sense. Digipaks usually are cardboard binding just like these sets, these just happen to be bigger than the standard size packaging we usually call a digipak
