It's shame that in review this classic has the same rating as 'God bless America'

Also, I would like to know if it's region A locked.

the film is a masterpeice because of how over the top campy it is! This is the most fun you can have with the western genre ever. Soap Opera in the old west is the best way to describe it and the film has never been compared to other westerns it is a cult classic honestly and is normally revered because it is a great film by Nicholas Ray.

Looks like DVD beaver posted their review of Johnny Guitar and oddly enough another example of how screenshot do NOT tell the whole story.

the Kinowelt Region 2 DVD looks the best. I am sure the blu should look better than a DVD but then again looks like the colors are not as intense on that DVD release and has more realistic looking pallet.

I'm flabbergasted that you would come to that conclusion.

I accept that opinions are subjective and we all see things differently. Fair enough. I've been around these board long enough to know that people are rarely in significant agreement.

But I think that Kinowelt disc looks mediocre for the indoor shoots and awful for the outdoor shots. It looks like an oversharpened videotape to me.

I have the Kinowelt disc, it's an minor upgrade over the VHS copy I owned but still one of the weakest DVDs in my collection. I paid $30 or so for it from Xploited back in the day, but was happy because it was (and probably still is) my favorite film. The Olive DVD of the film should be a major improvement on the Kinowelt, much less, and quite obviously, the Blu-ray.

You took what I typed the wrong way, I'm just stating that all these different screenshots were more than likely obtained different ways and that the BLU screenshots more than likely lack the overall image quality. Just stating yet again we have screenshots that do NOT represent fully the presentation as it would be while watching the film.

I'm not a fan of the beaver - the only way I'll go to the site is if I can google "dvdbeaver review xxxxx" and get a direct link to the review. If you go to their main page and try to search for something you'll end up with half a dozen flying windows/tabs. But had to check it out - the Kinowelt is clearly the best of the PAL DVDs, and the Universal easily the worst. But the Kinowelt does appear to be overly sharpened with boosted contrast. The Olive BD looks much more natural, much better detail without any boosted contrast. Looking forward to it.

Almost here...so excited to have Joan on Blu finally. And with Baby Jane coming next, I'm feeling spoiled!

I'm sorry but subtitles should be required. I pride myself on buying John Wayne films but there will be no putchase here as well. Wise up!

Agreed that Beaver has its flaws but...

It's not hard to find new reviews. They're listed on the left side at the main URL.

To look for older reviews then check the Blu Beaver URL because they list them alphabetically there.
What film do you think should be on Criterion blu-ray?

And the only additional window that appears is the one displaying your search results.
