I don't live in the UK, but Norway share the same DVD and BD region code, and both PAL and NTSC support has been standard over here for the last 15 years or more. I would be very surprised if UK players didn't support both as a general rule.
EDIT: Since I have a dedicated DVD player for all my DVDs (have actually never played a DVD in my Toshiba BDX3100 BD player before now), I just tried a Region 1 disc, and it played fine, just like I predicted. So I really don't think this problem really exists in Europe and Australia (many, or at least some, Region 4 DVDs are in fact NTSC), but if you went the other way around and bought a player from the US/Canada, it would exist. My US PS3 for instance, won't touch anything with PAL written on it, but EU PS3's support NTSC. Last edited by Prim; 06-28-2012 at 09:39 PM. |

Region B

My 2 Blu-ray players do. As far as I know, all UK Blu-ray players will (these days anyway - in the very early days of Blu-ray I think the UK PS3 might not have supported 1080/50i Blu-rays).
Also, to get a HD Ready badge in Europe, a TV must support both 50 & 60Hz I think. In fact a lot of the extras on UK Blu-rays are 480/60i ("NTSC") or 1080/60i (if they're not one of the other formats) - or sometimes 1080/60i for the main content. Note: This is different from region coding. It won't play if it's a different region code and if the player can't play that region. Last edited by 4K2K; 07-01-2012 at 11:00 PM. |
