You know what's actually influenced my decision to get this? The inclusion of the Universal Horror documentary on the Frankenstein disc (as well as the Boo! short film). If that wasn't on there I wouldn't have bothered. About time I update my taped-off-BBC2 VHS from years and years ago. Love that documentary. The two Frankensteins and Invisible Man are the only films I'm interested in otherwise. I HATE Browning's Dracula, man o man.

(But it's pure, total fear of Bela Lugosi, I reckon)

Disappointed to see the '43 phantom of the opera and not the '25. Is it just me or does the '43 version not seem to really fit in this set?

Agreed. It's Rubbish. Isn't the Chaney version already out?

The only thing is, the '25 version would be the only silent film in the set which also wouldn't fit.

It's one of the most beautiful looking films ever shot and next to Invisible Man, it's Rains' best performance.

You want the silent version? Go import the US release.

Can't wait to get my hands on this beauty, but I've got a feeling that the price tag will drop down to £20 two months after its release.

This set is from Universal so they are including their own films.

The silent Phantom is released by Park Circus in the UK I believe who also have the Chaplin rights. Therefore would not expect it in a Universal studios boxset.

Ahhh of course, I overlooked the fact that Universal don’t have the distribution rights to the '25 Phantom. I guess I just always regarded Lon Chaney as the definitive Universal Phantom; or have I just been warped by the years of collecting Universal monsters memorabilia

This is listed as an 8 disc set everywhere. Shouldnt it be 9 ? Creature in 3D, wouldnt it need a diffrent type of blu , that new 3d blu?

The 2D version will be on the same disc - the 2D version will just display the 'left-eye' version of the film. Or maybe the right eye.
