It'd be a shame to leave the commentary off, it's bad enough that the HD DVD is missing the video sections. It's one of the funniest I've ever heard, full stop.

The theatrical version isn't some comedy masterpiece though. I quite enjoyed the extended cut.

Smith loves to bust his own chops about being an inferior filmmaker, but there's some cojones on display in this movie. That opening shot from the extended version is a single 4-minute take, with crane shots and everything, and there's another long take as Brody and TS wind their way through the dirt mall.

So, I looked through the rest of the pages but didn't seen anything regarding whether or not this Region Free. If it is, i'll import it because it'll hold me over until an official US release.

Smith only assembled the long cut for fun, as stated in the intro. The TC is the only "real" way one is meant to watch the movie.

Usually these Universal catalog titles drop bigtime in price by release date. Remember getting Fast Times for 5.99, and Life for 4.66 at amazon UK !!! Hopefully Mallrats can go at least 6.99 so I can pull the trigger.

I still have a HD-DVD copy of Mallrats even though I don't have a HD-DVD player.
I bought it just for the collectibility of it...

Saw this today in HMV, no slip! I thought Universal had said directly that this had a slip!

Received my copy today, and the PQ isn't half bad. From what I remember of the HD DVD this appears to be the same master, with Ready Brek edge halos and obvious DNR, but it isn't all the way offensive.

There's still plenty of fine detail and a layer of smudgy grain on display, in spite of the DNR, and turning down the sharpness control on my TV (it's usually set as low as it can go before detail loss becomes a factor) helps to offset the EE.

No extras in any way, shape or form, and it's got the regulation lazy-ass hieroglyphics on the menu screen, in lieu of those handy things called words. Thanks, Universal!

The inevitable US edition will likely add the extras, but I'm good. The 10th Anni DVD has all the extra goodies, this Blu-ray has the HD transfer, job done. My HD Askewniverse collection is now complete.

Can anyone comment on the the difference in the extras between the Collector’s Edition and the 10th Anniversary Edition??

Trying to decide if I want to pick up the Anniv. Edition for cheap and add the disc in w/this bluray release.

I picked up this Blu-ray in the HMV 5 for Ł30 sale recently. I was a bit disappointed that there were no extras on there, but I have this version on DVD:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mallrats-DVD...8981333&sr=1-1

so at least I have the extras on there. It just means having to keep both discs

It's worth noting that Smith will be making his last film (Clerks III) and then retire so I might wait for a potential Kevin Smith box set.

i'm not a patient person so i'm not willing to wait the next 3-4 years for a box set that may or may not even get released.

Damn straight! Clerks II was a surprisingly decent sequel and Kevin Smith is easily one of my Top 5 directors.

according to the above poster there are no extras
But if you've got the 10th Ann. DVD you have all the extras you need so its prob worth getting the bare bones disc if its simply for the movie upgrade
(Pre-)ordered: Aladdin SB / Atlantis 2 Movie Pack USA / Django Unchained SB / Lilo & Stitch 2 Movie Pack USA / The Little Mermaid US 3D
For Sale/Trade: Canadian Kill bill Steelbooks (Part 1 and Part 2)
Wanted: UK or USA iTunes code for Iron Man 1 (PM if you can help)

Meh, I relented and just put it into a dual case and put the HD DVD in with it.

I was surprised at the sheer bitrate thrown at this transfer. It's ludicrous, it's practically a Superbit BD.
