Yeah, new DLC this month but something else i haven't bothered to buy. Played the game a few days ago and even got my mate back on it but the crap ton of time it takes to get the iconic stuff is killing it for me. I have literally no problem grinding but when that much grinding is required and time it's not for me tbh. I'm all for grinding and that but not when the time invested is for such a crappy reward. You only get like 2 marks of whatever for like 20 mins worth of time and each part of a set costs like 40-60 marks each and you can imagine how long that will take.

On top, they screwed people over that bought the game and that left a bad taste in my mouth too so now i just log in and do a bit here and there. Got like 1 item so far.

Finished downloading the game sometime this morning and created my first character before heading to work. I'm interested in a Premium account; question is: what should I purchase? I haven't had a chance to check the Add-On section in the Playstation Store, but is there anything to buy besides DLC packs (though I might consider The Battle For Earth)?

There is quite a lot of stuff to buy but what's actually worthwhile buying is subjective to say the least. You can buy some of those booster things or opt for the DLC that actually expands the story and gives access to new powers i think, but don't quote me on that, only got the 1 character i always use anyways and not bought anything besides the game which gave me a measly premium account access.

Talking of which, finding the cheapest possible useful add-on you can to buy will get you premium access and faster load times into the game. More slots for items, money etc and being able to use attachments. I'm a bit meh on the game now despite the lingering enthusiasm still showing around in my sig. The PvE an PvP gear is a pain in the jacksie to get a hold of and even harder if your going solo like i have to.

Just play around with your character on a free basis before you decide to wade into DLC. Better to get a feel for the game and get your bearings.

The amount of space this game takes is just insane! I haven't played it in a long time and I tried to log in and check if anything had changed, it prompt me for an update and I said ok. I check the size of the update and it says it's 5GB. I immediately stopped it and quit. Now I'm thinking of deleting the game altogether because I'm running out of space.

I checked mine earlier and it was over 10GB and I haven't even downloaded the last few updates.

Your looking at over 16gb for this game currently if you downloaded a fresh version off the PSN. It'll choke your bandwith if you have a data cap and especially if like in the UK you download during peak time, you get throttled.

16GB sounds about right (including updates/patches). Thankfully, I started the download ~2:00am and when I woke up, I was disconnected, but the download was complete.

I'm tempted to pick up Ratchet & Clank: A4O on disc (seeing as it's $10 today at Best Buy), just so I can free up 14GB+ from my hard drive (I think I have ~65GB free space left, and I had a 320GB HD installed).

I'm liking it thus far, and leveling up at the moment isn't too bad (though I suspect the requirements will become steeper in a hurry). I don't think I'll see any discounts soon on the DLC packs, so I may pick up just one later this week (for the Premium account access and *hopefully* improved load times), just to see what it offers. Despite the repetition, it's one of the better free titles I've played, so I'll invest a bit of time to see what I can do with my character.

It is funny though to still see the Disc version of this game still at Target for 50 bucks.

The levelling is the easiest part of it tbh, but it's the end level PvP gear and grinding for the currency needed (you get like 2 marks of something per 20 mins, and takes 50-70 per item x 6 to get a full set. There's like 6-12 sets).

I don't really have anybody to help me with the PvP stuff and i have better things to do, so when i do log in now and again assuming theres no massive update, i'll probably work on getting the currency. Some are much more difficult to get than others.

Quick question for those with Flight as one of their abilities: how do you bring a character to a dead stop, i.e. make him/her land on their feet while flying / hovering over the ground?

Update: never mind; figured it out (hit L3 twice)

Now that I've figured out the basics and leveling up with my second character is considerably faster, I'm thinking of starting over with my first character. Hand blasts look cool, but even at level 16, only suitable for ranged attacks and is easily overwhelmed in crowds. I have only 5 days invested in him, so maybe it would be less of a chore to rebuild from scratch.

I'm fortunate that my first character was very good and well balanced which is something that made me keep using him. Gadgets, flight and single handed weapon were a great start point.

I think it all depends on how you feel comfortable playing. Once you do know, theres a ton of guides out there that show you how best to tweak your skills etc to get the most out of the character your wanting to play with. Hope that helps a little

Funny you should mention this, as I was perusing the official DCUO forums earlier this morning (created an account, but unable to post, so I need to have that straightened out with their support line). It seems that I made a bad choice from the get-go, i.e. other players are also dissatisfied and disgruntled by the hand blasters' limited AOE and damage infliction. Basically, I have a weapon that looks cool but about as effective as a wet noodle. I'm pretty sure my secondary creation (level 7) can kick my primary character's bum (level 16), largely because it's so difficult to link chain hits. I'm definitely starting over with a different main weapon; just need to figure out which way to go this time.

Haven't played in months but my first was a hand blast and it rocked for PvE as a controller.

Hand Blast is one of the easiest to get a super high combo with it's lightning thing. It also has several knockbacks that can be used to help crowd control a group a little - but yes it is much more effective if you can focus on one mob at a time.

Now PvP it never seemed spectacular, but some of the weapons are like that - better at one than the other.

The one that always seemed the absolute worst to me was 1-handed even though it looked cool.

Okay, you gotta help me out here then 'cause I was using Hand Blasts with Mental as my Power and Superman as my mentor, but my character felt a bit underwhelming at level 17, even though I was equipped with every Lvl. 15 outfit option available at vendors to boost my traits. I was so frustrated by this combination that I deleted my primary and rebuilt from scratch yesterday, this time with Superman as mentor, but with Martial Arts and Fire (happier with this combination, and the Meteor Shower move is just sweet ). I prefer hand blasts over throwing shurikens, so I'm still searching for that right combination of powers and skills.

Martial arts is considered one of the better fighting styles for PvE and PvP i think but not 100% sure on it lol. It doesn't really matter who your mentor is as it only decides what type of missions you go on. I chose Batman so mostly got Gotham based missions but i also got access to missions Superman etc do offer.

There are a few you won't get unless you went with another mentor but you can kinda participate in them when playing with party members from the different mentors when they do their unique missions. It's like a tag along.

My biggest advice really is for you to find a character you love to play and will continue to love once your ready for end game stuff involving PvP etc, because it gets annoying, really fast having to grind all that time away for currency to get armour sets etc that can actually help you, so if your characters already a PITA, your SOL really.

I'm happy to continue with mine but as said, keep reading the guides and experimenting for the best set up you like to use and will help you compete in the end game content effectively.

I think I'm satisfied with both of my characters at the moment. I could continue creating characters and tinkering with their Powers and Skills sets, but seeing as upgraded moves are pretty much mapped to similar button sequences anyway (e.g. tap , hold , etc.), I don't think it matters much which weapon I use. Martial Arts are working well for me so far (especially with crowds of 5-6 enemies), so I'll stick with that.

I'm tempted to pick up the Green Lantern DLC for the Light power type, but I'll work on leveling up my existing characters for now.
