The Barnes & Noble web site has a whole section of art house/foreign films. So I suggest you peruse those pages to see if anything interests you.

Well, either way, this is the sort of thing that I could see getting in the way of his films appearing on blu in the US as well as in the CC. Lynch simply wants control over every aspect of the film and rightly so. Which, for studios just equals more $, time and frustration. So it doesn't get done the way it should. What would probably be more likely than a studio or CC release is an Absurda one directly from Lynch himself if he could get the $ and licenses together.

Thumbs up

I finally watched Malick's The Thin Red Line and I was totally blown away: the movie, the transfer, the audio, and I'm halfway through the supplements. I thought the their Days of Heaven disc was magnificent, but this one shook me all over. One of the best Criterion releases, indeed.

Now if only Badlands and The Tree of Life would come soon enough. :T
~~~Congratulations to LOREEN and SWEDEN for winning the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2012!~~~
Glad you liked it. It's my favorite Malick by far, although Tree of Life is a close second. Criterion doesn't need to release TOL though, the regular edition is about as perfect as it can get. Unless it's the rumored 6 hour cut.
Yeah, they'd really be reaching by releasing it. I can only see wanting it in the collection for "completists" (is that even a word?) sake, especially if they release Badlands.
The current BD is impeccable. Even the packaging is really good - the art under the discs is perfect.
Criterion Cast's scoop says 7/10 for the sale.
I saw Umberto D today for the first time. What a wonderful film. So simple yet incredibly moving. To watch a mans dignity slowly being overtaken by despair was heartbreaking. I'll definitely be adding it to my collection.
A resounding yes to this! Gallipoli and The Year of Living Dangerously are two of the gems of the Australian New Wave sadly missing on blu-ray. I still have my craptastic snap case DVD editions of both, two of my first ever home video buys. It is hard to believe that these films have become nearly forgotten since they were released in the US in the early 1980s. Every time there is a list of most wanted blu-rays, Criterion or otherwise, these two are always near the top for my most wanted. As much as I like Peter Weir's Hollywood period, in my opinion his best work is still his gritty and powerfully moving earlier Australian films.
I wish Criterion would get the rights to more films from the Australian New Wave era. One of my favorite countries and time periods for movies, and I devoured these films on VHS when they were available in most of the rental outlets in the 1980s-1990s. It is a crying shame that so many great ones are still missing on blu-ray (at least in Region A).
I'd love to see Crash (1996) and Leaving Las Vegas (1995) both released by Criterion.
happy shopping!
This should be the first post, in red or black, on every page till the day of the sale.
I'm sorry to bring down this party, but as I work at a B&N Music & Movies dept., I feel that I should tell you guys that there isn't going to be a sale for all Criterions.
What is happening is that selected Criterions will be on sale starting on 7/10, only two of which are BDs (Harold and Maude and The Samurai Trilogy), the rest that is on sale are the DVD versions of the June releases.
My most wanted missing film on blu-ray is The Grey Fox. A superb award winning Canadian film that never even got a DVD release. I had rented it on VHS so often that it was one of the few films I actually bought in that format. The tape somehow disappeared during a move years ago.
