Well, I hate Mondays....why? My car overheated after I got off the highway today near work (about 20 miles from home.) I pulled over and let it cool down and when I checked under the hood, there seems to be a leak with one of the hoses (I hope anyway!) I then drove about 20 miles back home (with the car occassionally smoking when I had to stop) and made it to the garage. They are good guys and I was able to drop it off, no problem. Then I walked home (which is only a few hundred yards away from my house) and took my wifes car to work (luckily she is going to the shore with the kids today and didn't need the car, so talk about good timing!) In the end , I was only 40 minutes late, so I can make that up with just a 20 minute lunch. Anyway, I hope it doesn't cost too much, as it seems all kinds of small "life events" have come up this year, setting my HT fund back to zero each time. Right now I have a few hundred saved up, but I have a feeling I can kiss that bye-bye again!
I don’t think I could do that again on that little Nighthawk though. if I had highway pegs, that may have been a different story.

That sucks to hear about your car dude!! I know how those “life events” keep sucking the money.

Hi Fors*...Too bad about your car. Maybe you need to break down and just buy a new one.

Sorry to hear about your car man.. hopefully it's just a bad hose which should only cost about $100 to fix (labor costs suck).

Just found out that the car is done and it was a bad hose! Only sets me back $130. Not great, but it could have been a lot worse.

Good morning all. Kind of a weird morning with the wife and kids at the shore, and it just being myself and the dog at home. As a matter of fact, with no one home I had to take my 4 month old boxer to "doggie day camp" for the next 2 days as I went to work. She seemed OK at first, but then a bit scared when they put her in a crate. Lots of dogs barking of course and this is the first time that neither my wife nor I will be home with her since we got her. I felt bad leaving her there as she watched me leave and seemed sad.......

Man, this is just a dog we are talking about, so it seems silly to feel this way about her, but what can I say? It must be REALLY hard for you parents out there who end up having to leave your kids at daycare for the first time. I may have to do this later this Fall for the first time ever with my 3 yr old son, so I am not looking forward to that!

I understand. The first time we left Cleo here when we flew to San Diego was rough. Still is. Cannot help but worry about her.

It's easy Just wait until you are used to him going to the sitters everyday and you have him for a solid 9 days while they are on vacation in Florida I was never so happy to see someone not related to me in my entire life

Of course, you are implying that I would not be working for those 9 days.....which hasn't happened in over 2 years. The most consecutive days off I have had in the last 2+ years is just 5 (counting the weekend), so I don't think I will get to find out Bill.

I haven't had an actual vacation of ANY kind in the last 6 years, since before I got divorced - in all that time, I have only taken a day or two at a time off work, here and there, but the time off was always for completing construction projects at home - so they were actually "working" days off, doing manual labor chores which took much more effort than just sitting at a desk at work... I get three weeks of PTO every year, but what kind of "vacation" can a single guy take by himself? I'd end up just sitting arround the house anyway...

That is what has happened to me in the last couple of years. With the price of gas and everything else, we have had only "day trips" with the kids. Other than that, I too have just taken time off to get projects done. I get 12 PTO days and then 7 sick days each year, which I have to take them all or lose all of the days. Needless to say, I call out sick once in a while when I'm not sick at all, just so I can use the days, as I don't want to lose them. I have even had to take a day here and there just to be with the kids while my wife is out of town since my father-in-law passed away in April. So, at least you only have to watch yourself when you have taken a day off Troy, as I have had to take PTO days simply to go home and watch the kids when my wife is gone. Such a waste of good PTO days!
