Good grief it's 2012. Why even bother with DVD?
What film do you think should be on Criterion blu-ray?

Because DVD for the most part still outsells Blu-ray?
Blu-ray releases should be perfect representations of their cinema counterparts.

Still no updates from them. I'm starting to feel a letdown about a blu-ray box. As a side note the later films are available on Amazon U.S. for around $20 each. They're all Region A compatible except Match Point. A cheaper price than ordering them overseas.

The original Amazon.es B008CN8GFS ASIN listing turned into a DVD listing.

There's 2 new identical Blu-ray listings with the same price and # of discs as the DVD one: B008CNIKV8 and B008CNMKK0 (I added one of them, head or tails) so some healthy Woody paranoia about this being a tumor the size of a basketball might be prescribed.

Looks like there probably won't be a boxed set this year. As an Allen fan, it's a huge relief for my wallet but a disappointment that his films aren't being released on BD.

Presumably the DVD's are still in print - most of them anyways. So why another box set of mostly bad transfers?

It's like when Duck Soup was re-issued for the 10th time on DVD not too long ago. Superfluous.

My thoughts exactly. My wallet wouldn't be able to handle it if there were yet ANOTHER box set I wanted, but dammit, I want classic Woody Allen on Blu. Not just Annie Hall or Manhattan...

Mmm the Woody Allen listings on Amazon.es are multiplying like Gremlins

http://www.amazon.es/s?rh=n%3A599379...qid=1341920429

so something may be coming up but it hasn't coalesced into a solid substance

Actually, there's been 3 or 4 listings of each set for some time now. Very confused. Amazon.es have not replied since last week about this.

For anyone wanting some 'later' Woody BD's check out the Swedish imports. They're region free and there's some for as low as $15 on Amazon U.S.

Lol.I think those listings are errors too.

I found on Amazon The Woody Allen Collection, DVD Sets 1-3.It was released by MGM back in '08,and it contains all of 19 movies that Woody made for MGM.That set is currently priced at 149.98 $.Which means, eventual MGM/Fox 20 movie BD set would be priced at 200-250 $... i figure. That's a lot of cash.Even for massive set such as this.I wonder how many ppl would buy it.
On the other hand, studios releases more and more box-sets as of late.I presume that's a good way to sell some of the leser known titles along with the big ones.MGM/Fox themselves already have scheduled Bond set for Sept,MM collection for July, and Chuck Norris collection for August in Spain.I believe/hope they will be accompanied by "The Pink Panther Collection" soon.

Just to add that i got a lot of 720p/1080i HDTV broadcasts of Allen's MGM movies;and most of them look really good!(Love and Death,Bananas,Sleeper,Everything you Wanted to Know About Sex,Hannah and Her Sisters,The Purple Rose of Cairo...)

Well, why not? Woody Allen is still popular, and the discs are probably the same, so they just put those existing titles in an existing box and people will buy it. Or not, and even then it's not a huge loss.

I just want Hannah and Her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and Radio Days. Then I'll be happy.

I still think that we may get an announcement in the U.S. for a box set. The DVD box is out everywhere in Europe. MGM/Fox has the Bond and Marilyn boxes coming, and so many others from other studios are coming that they must see the value in releasing a Woody BD box. His movies have never made of ton of money (with a few exceptions), but clearly it would sell if released.

Right now they announce the release of two titles in January, so I don't think a BD box will happen any time soon. In fact, what looks like is they're releasing two titles a year...

Maybe a partial box will happen (the two already released titles and the new two titles), but not a big one.

Agreed.I'm also inclined to think that giant box, with 19-20 titles included, will never happen. Not anytime soon,at least.
Partial box sets sounds about right. Here's hoping, anyway.
Btw,two titles per year.....i dont want to sound ungrateful, but come on,MGM/Fox....you guys can do better than this

I would say at this point--unless something is announced within a week or so--that the thread title should be changed or this thread just closed altogether, as it seems apparent at this point that the info is unfortunately wrong.
the recent announcement of the 2 coming titles is the final nail in the coffin imo.
(really wish it weren't the case)
just my 2 cents.
