Default Choice between 2 HTiB systems, HELP!

Throughout the year my job gives me a choice of prizes. This year I have narrowed it down to TWO

HTiB systems, I don't have model numbers and I can't narrow it down online, but this is what I know about both of them:

1. Sony 1000W 5.1 Ch. 3D Wi-Fi Blue-ray Home Theater
1000W 5.1CH Blu-ray home theater system is 3D ready with the addition of a 3D HDTV. 4 matched speakers and 1 center channel speaker. Wireless rear speakers, magnetically shielded center-channel speaker and 1 passive subwoofer. Internet connectable, AM/FM tuner with 30 presets. 1 HDMI input and output.

or

2.Klipsch and Yamaha 500W 5.1 Ch. Home Theater Audio Package
Yamaha 500W 5.1 Ch. A/V home theater receiver features 4 HDMI inputs to accept a wide variety of HD sources. Klipsch HD theater speaker system comprises four 2-ay satellite speakers and one 2-way center channel speaker plus 100W powered subwoofer for powerful bass.

Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about these two systems, which one would be better?

Right now I have a Samsung Blu Ray player, but mainly use my PS3.
I have a Samsung 40 Inch LCD 1080i television, but will upgrade this year to a 65" LED LCD 3D capable 240HZ. I'm not super concerned with 3D, but I want everything to look and sound great.

I DO NOT currently have any type of Home theater equipment, so I figured a nice good start would be free...can't really beat that right?

Any tips or suggestions? My initial gut feeling would be to go for the Yamaha and Klipsch combo, but I could be wrong.

Without having model numbers its going to be hard to see exactly how the two systems will compare. Off the top of my head I'd suggest going with the Yamaha and Klipsch combo. The Yamaha will allow growth in the future if and when you are ready to move up to bigger speakers. Least we forget the multiple inputs that you will have access to as your home theater equipment grows.

The Sony may have the bells and whistles like 3d. I'm sure the 1000w seems good but I'm sure that its getting no where near that. Plus it only has 1 hdmi input. You will have out grown it as soon as you try to hook one more thing up to it. It may have optical in and you can run that through your tv to the receiver if your tv has multiple inputs.

The main draw back from getting the Sony is that most of the HTIB use proprietary speaker connectors and its a pain in the @$$ to change the speakers.

I agree with what he said... and would also like to add that with the Sony, the blu-ray player and the "receiver" are likely one combined (cheaply made) piece of equipment. I'd go with the Yamaha Klipsch package as well as that is something that sounds much more upgradable in the future. Depending upon what model Yamaha it is... it may well be 3D compatible even if it isn't listed prominently in the specs.

Yea he is 100% correct about speaker terminals. I had one to get me by until I decided on a better system. I bought it and kept it for 2-3 months before I bought a HTIB that was more upgradable friendly. Let everyone know the model # the receiver is and we can be a bit more helpful.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...sch-_-82780018

Those are decent speakers for a above entry home theater. Especially if its free. Go with them and the Yammy receiver you previously mentioned.

ok so as luck would have it, the speakers came today....but no receiver.

Here's the speaker system http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+...1165&cp=1&lp=1

there's the link to the system for the speakers...but right now they are just a very large yellow end table....though quite sturdy i might add

got the receiver today and without looking at it specifically I'm pretty sure judging from the sku that it is this Yamaha

http://reviews.bestbuy.com/3545/2053...=2&sort=rating

they gave me an upgrade on the speakers and a clearance Receiver....I'm pretty sure I can trade it in. Hopefully I won't have to come off money from my end.

I'm not so sure about this.

What do you guys think?

Nice prize, you have nothing to complain about.

You are in the wrong part of the forum, since that is not a HTiB, it's far better then that.

Congrats and enjoy!

Default Yamaha - a good choice!

The sony systems are very convenient. I bought mines back in 2010 and I have to say the bluray picture quality is outstanding as well as the sound. If you are listening to regular dvds, then it does lack somewhat. I do have the wireless surround speakers (so they call it wireless) which isn't quite the case, but you don't have to run wires from the front end of the room to the back. It's the model BDV-E500.

I think you have made a wise choice going with the Yamaha receiver. I had a dolby digital receiver, also made my Yamaha which I purchased in 1997 and it never gave me any problems. Best of luck hope it all pans out for you!

I was in a similar boat and I went with an LG not Onkyo for the following reasons:
  1. Onkyo apparently has more professional sound.but I wasn't sure if I would be able to understand it.
  2. LG had Wifi and LAN access and could play the videos from my computer
  3. The USB in LG could read videos from the HDD and Onkyo could read only Music
  4. LG was cheaper for more features!
