It just means the Vita disables the network while the game is running (save battery life). Happens on several of my games.

I think some of the PS Vita processing power is used to maintain network connectivity, and some games explicitly turn this function off to preserve more computational muscle for the game engine. Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Super Stardust Delta and Gravity Rush are all games that I have that do this, and I'm sure there are others.

This means that you can't do certain things while playing these games (background downloading, PSN messaging, etc.). It's a perfectly normal message.

---

As far as impressions go, here's some quick thoughts on this game since I picked it up earlier this week:

Story
A lot of the posts above already cover it, but you play as Kat, an amnesiac girl who finds that she can manipulate the force of gravity around here. The town she's in, Hekseville, has been torn apart by some sort of space-time rift, and Kat finds herself roped into helping fix the problem.

Presentation
This is easily one of the prettiest games (if not THE prettiest game) on the Vita. It has a distinctive art style and expansive panoramic views accessible from almost everywhere, and the draw distances are impressive. Colors really pop out of the Vita's OLED screen, and the screen is uncluttered and clean of too many HUD elements, letting you really soak in the great visuals.

The screenshots and videos linked above give you a good idea of what the game looks like, but what they don't quite do as well is show off just how amazing the music is in the game. The soundtrack for Gravity Rush is just as lush and topical as its art style, perfectly suiting the whimsical but almost-steampunk feel of the game with a variety of orchestral and jazzy songs that flow seamlessly into the cutscenes and gameplay.

Voice acting (and visual storytelling) is done in an interesting gibberish language which sounds like a bizarre cross between Italian and Japanese. Even in storytelling cutscenes, many of which are shown through comic-book-like story panels that are viewable from different angles if you tilt the Vita, there are never any actual "speech bubbles" or even the usual onomatopoeia. Everything "written" in the game is in the same sort of faux-katakana language, and translated on-screen via subtitles. It's neat, consistent, and adds a definite "otherworldly" feel to the game.

Gameplay
Gravity Rush is all about its gameplay. There's a lot to do, and a lot to explore.

The game is played primarily in first person view, and you get a bunch of interesting tools for getting around the world. Above and beyond the basic ability to simply manipulate the flow of gravity around you, you eventually learn tricks like dive-kicking, fast-falling, and gravity-skating that give you even more ways to get around in 3D space without ever getting lost.

A VERY neat trick is that Kat's scarf and hair always fall "down" in the direction of "real" gravity, no matter what you do with your powers. That makes it easy to tell when you're upside down or running sideways up a wall even when the architecture doesn't give you any clues.

There's a bunch of minigame challenges that let you earn extra points which will upgrade your gravity powers, letting you do things like increase your combat prowess with various attacks to increasing your movement speed with each technique.

Combat takes some getting used to but is really fun once it "clicks". Typically you can engage enemies via melee attacks, gravity kicks, a special attack called Spiral Claw, or by "throwing" items in the environment using the Gravity Stasis ability. Enemies are varied, and have different behaviors, turning to hide their weak points, charging at you, or firing projectiles at you.

The only thing I haven't quite wrapped my head around is one move called the Gravity Slide. You have to hold your fingers on the lower right and left corners of the screen, which will send Kat sliding across whatever surface is currently the "floor" (which might be the ceiling if she's actually upside-down at the time). You can power drift by removing one of the two fingers from one side, attack by tapping the attack button, and/or jump by shaking the controller. If that sounds difficult to learn to do gracefully, it's because it is, and it's really the only part of the control scheme that irks me.

Overall
Gravity Rush is a breath of fresh air and a great example of what the Vita can bring to gaming. Above and beyond that, it's simply a well-constructed game with a lot of heart. Not quite everything works perfectly, but what is there is so appealing that you can forgive the few flaws.
PS3: 100+ games, 100+ movies. Pure HD bliss!

The real use I've found for it is that you move a lot faster so it's like a run. Otherwise it does seem unwieldy - but then again I'm still trying to get my bearings. The gravity changing is a ton of fun, but it is also easy to lose your bearings quick.

I got my copy from Amazon (us) and I have the inside cover "instruction manual" too - I'm assuming that's what you meant.

I ordered mine from Amazon US as well and I didn't get any instructions with the game.

*Edit* I just found out that they put the instructions in the back of the slip cover.

I'm enjoying this so much! I love how Japanese it is

I have a question for those who have completed the game, I'm trying to enjoy my first playthrough by completing the main missions and not waste time with side missions, so I was wondering when I beat this the game will I be able to go back to the missions I've ignored (conversations, city missions, etc..) or I'll have to start a new game

After you finish the main game it prompts you to save, if you load that save you can do all the challenges, kill the hidden nevi's etc.
There aren't any missable trophies or anything like that so just have fun.
I do recommend trying to tackle some of the challenges though, the final part of the game is much easier with a levelled up Kat.

Has anyone bought the DLC for Gravity Rush? If so is it worth it?

Well each gives two story missions, a costume, and some challenge missions. I guess it depends. The first with the spy costume took me an hour or two to get through the story missions and I haven't done the challenge missions. I'm also not the fastest player.

If you compare it to other ~$5 DLC packs it might be a little over price compared to some, but I enjoyed it and like the game. I don't feel like I've been ripped off.

I'm still mid-game so I haven't been able to start the military one yet, did the spy one, and downloaded and can do the maid one but just haven't had a chance yet (I will next time I boot up the game). Once I have all three done I'll add my thoughts here. (I'm sure others have already done all three.)

I've completed the main missions and enjoyed the game A LOT, so I'm getting the DLCs (already got the Special Force Pack as a pre-ordered bonus)

I'm not going to start playing any of them before I 100% the main game, though! I don't know how am going to gold EVERY challenge but we'll see

Trophies I still need to earn:
- It’s all Relative aka Platinum, duh
- True Challenger
- Silver Lining
- All That Glitters
- Gem Aficionado

mostly challenges related *sigh* which I really can't seem to gold or even silver, but I'll do my best to get them! could this be.. my first plat..

btw, the game is not rpg, the thread title is misleading

The challenges aren't that bad once you're all levelled up. One tip is that for the races where you have to slide, don't be afraid to stop at a sharp corner, re-align and then start sliding again. One of the big time wasters for me was trying to slide around corners, it's just too hard to be accurate.

I platinumed this game a few weeks ago and love it. I wish the DLC was cheaper, I know it's only $4, but still. The missions are short and after you already earn the costumes there's 0 replayability. I'm going to try to hold off, maybe a few months from now the DLC will be cheaper and give me a reason to pick this awesome game up again.
