Hello BigAl.
Man, I have a whole series of questions regarding your DAC and it's implementation. But it's been a long day and I'm exhausted. I will post the questions tomorrow. Have a good evening, my friend.

Hello Oliver.
First off, welcome back from your vacation. Judging from your recent posts, it looks like you had an awesome time. I do have some questions for you regarding the implementation of the your Arcam rDAC. Being that you have an HTPC with hi-rez files, how do you have it connected to the rDAC? Do you also run the HK DVD-48 thru the rDAC? Have you had the chance to compare the rDAC processing to the AVR-400's? How does the USB upsampling to 96 kHz compare to sending a high rez signal from the HTPC via optical or coaxial or HDMI to the AVR-400? Ask all of these questions because I just received my PS Audio Digital Link III. I haven't had a chance to connect it because I'm in NY working! ![]() Being that the DLIII's USB stage is not asynchronous, it can only up-sample to 16/48kHz. I was planning on connecting my 1st Gen. Apple TV via USB because it maxes out at 16/44.1 (ALAC) anyway. I've read on several Hi-fi forums that despite of the DL III's lack of a asynchronous USB, it still vastly improves the quality of the signal. I'm also going to experiment with the optical connection of the ATV to see if the DL III's up-sampling to 96 and 192 sounds better than the USB connection. I will connect the HTPC via coaxial. Currently, I'm sending the hi-rez audio via HDMI to the Rotel, which it can detect and accommodate both 96 and 192 kHz signals. I may even connect my Denon DVD-3930CI to see if there is an improvement over the it's PCM-1796 DAC's. I also purchased a Pangea USB 4% silver cable and a Pangea Powercord PC-14 along with a 1M pair of AQ King Cobra interconnects. The Pangea cord and cable are entry level products, therefore inexpensive, but better than the Monster Cable USB cable and DL III stock power cord. I will most like upgrade both to the higher models. Audio Advisor's prices are pretty fair. I know, long post. But I do appreciate your knowledge on the subject.

You can read about jitter here. http://www.stereophile.com/reference/1290jitter/ So far I answered your first 2 questions. I have not tested the built in DAC on the AVR400 but I am positive it wont be better than the rDAC just looking at the configuration, the dac of the rDAC is better than the one found on the AVR400. I believe the rDAC is not upsampling the signal but that does not mean lower SQ, it actually sounds great as long as the clock is stable with the digital coax. For SQ Digital coax is great if the clock is good and you need a quality 75 ohms cable for that USB is probably the second best for the rDAC because of the async jitter reduction re-clocking circuitry , third would be the optical despite the great jitter reduction of the rDAC. The best is to experience an you will find out what works best with the DL III dac.

Hello Oliver.
I have a question for you..... Are you familiar with this Morrow Audio? They are a audio cable manufacturer, similar to Blue Jeans but caters more to hi-end. Morrow Audio The reason I ask is because, they make some interesting claims regarding the performance compared to other high-end makes and obviously, for less money.
