This kind of illogical statement just doesn't compute with me. This was an easy mistake to catch and yet they didn't.

AND it has some DNR that the other discs haven't so it clearly should be on the list.

As in one 24th of a second. I would know I watched the disc. I didn't arbitrarily decide it was Inferior because a random grab of single frame showed an error in Lowry's scratch removal. There is no DNR, to say so would be an error on the list. There is Lowry/Relliance scratch removal which a completely different tool. Last edited by Fanboyz; 07-15-2012 at 05:10 AM. |

I´m not talking about some blobs or scratches removed. Seen comparison screens where there whole picture is much softer than DE/UK and that sure is DNR filter of some form so there is two problems, not one.

I just went back and looked at the rest of the screen captures and I definitely agree with you. There's something making the picture slightly softer on the US version.

Well it's hard to explain.
I don't think the caps comparison pointed on this thread make the US one the weakest one. On the contrary. You have to hardly look to find 2 caps in this comparison which would look better on another edition. But all the other frames prove (at least to me) that the US indeed is better. There is less video noise on the US disc when I watch the movie on my screen, with a better grain structure too apart from perhaps 2 scenes. In terms of bonus materials, I found that the US one was more interesting. As for the sound... I honestly don't care so I won't be a good judge of that. Hope I managed to answer a bit to your querries... I know it's difficult to chose which edition to buy. And at the end of the day, it's only my point of view, I would totally understand that you wouldn't want to decide just on the behalf of my thoughts I would say that overall the US disc is the best option, then I would rank the dutch edition second (which has a strong and somehow different looking picture), and the UK edition, third (different batch of extras). |

Great post, thanks for all the hard work
Could you possibly add The Hole (2009 kid movie) to the list? I know it has several International releases, some/most have 3D, but the US has just had a version announced, and doesn't look like it's getting a 3D release, but other than that, will there be any major differences in sound/picture quality? Thanks!

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me has a UK release (horrible release if the Amazon.co.uk reviewers are trusted, but I thought you might want to include for completeness), and a Japanese release--any info on this Japanese version? I'd prefer to stay away from the Region B locked French one if possible.
Also, I think you changed your shorthand for Germany at some point from DE to GE , such as in the Eraserhead listing. Also in that listing, you give JP video bitrate as 29.90 kbps and I think you meant Mbps. While on the subject, any idea if there's a picture difference here between German and Japanese? The Japanese packaging is more appealing to me, but it has the 16-bit audio vs. the DE 24-bit, so kinda on the fence with this one. |
