I'd say that not getting the Blade Runner 5 Disc Set was a pretty big release we missed out on. I mean, I know we got the Final Cut and the Dangerous Days Documentary but we still missed out on four other cuts of the film and a whole disc of extras.

I gave up waiting for A Streetcar Named Desire, Treasure Of The Sierrra Madre, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Citizen Kane, King Kong (Original), the remastered Gangs Of New York and remastered Casablance. I ordered the region free US versions for not much more. As for Chinatown, the US one has extras, the UK one doesn't

You would think that big films that came out in the US on blu-ray would be out already. Unless they consider blu-ray to be niche and think that the people who want those films will import them

Was there the same discrepancies back in the early DVD days. I can't remember as I never imported DVDs as they were just usually Region 1, and only import blu-rays now as most are region free, plus I prefer the thinner cases and the fact that they don't have ratings plastered all over them. Do we really need rating on the front, back, side and on the disc? That's probably a discussion for another thread

Ditto. That's one release I'd very much like to have.

I won't hold your breathe. In those territories the DVD and BD rights are with Sony. Here the DVD was EiV and they are absolutely crap at what they release. They never bothered with the Special Edition DVD either.

I've been picking up a few US titles over the last few months or so.

Not necessarily all big titles, but things I've bought which haven't been released over here yet include:-

Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 1
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
Home on the Range
Treasure Planet
Battle Beyond the Stars
Big Trouble in Little China
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Catwoman
Conan the Destroyer
Cutthroat Island
Dances with Wolves Extended Version
Dead or Alive
Dungeons and Dragons 1 & 2
Ella Enchanted
Evita
Gremlins 2
Jason and the Argonauts
Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D (I actually have the French one because the US one is locked)
Miss Congeniality 1 & 2
Princess Diaries 1 & 2
Rocketeer
Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
Waynes World 1 & 2

And I can think of quite a few others that I wouldn't mind.

A Region B release of "The Last Starfighter" would be good, but I hope it gets a new audio transfer. I bought the US one, and it's missing musical cues in a couple of spots.

We've just had "The Rocketeer" announced here in Australia, so maybe a UK release will follow? (And of course, it was announced the same week my US copy arrived in the post! )

My favourite ever movie - Vanishing Point - has a Region A US locked release. I'm not multi region so can't play it. I really want it released over here and with all the extras

Correct. Unbelievable really. Im probably in the minority but this one is my favourite of the 70s conspiracy films. (I never did get on with The Conversation - sacrilege to some I know!). The Nordic digibook comes with a slip as well (wish my UK Mulholland Drive digibook had a slip like this!) and I wouldnt swap it for anything. The US one is supposed to have a different, slightly better? transfer but has no extras. Theres some argument about which transfer is best though, after careful review I went for the European one which also has lots of good extras.

You can get the briefcase from amazon.es for 40 euros - which I did. You get the normal jumbo amaray inside (exactly the same as the US) with 5 discs which are all exactly the same as the US discs - except that the Final Cut plays with the 5.1 True HD track automatically (you had to select it on the US one!). The small booklet is in Spanish of course but thats no great loss (Ive got the same booklet from the UK DVD tin set). Everything else in the set is the same as the US briefcase including the large prints from the film, spinner car, unicorn, hologram thing etc.

Or theres the just announced gift set and digibook set for US release later in the year - see the Blade Runner thread for that. Im probably going to stick with my very nice briefcase though!

Oh yeah - I sold my old US 5-disc jumbo amaray when I got the briefcase...which paid for it!

Chinatown was a biggie for me - the US one has a nice slipcover too if you are into that sort of thing. No extras on the UK one made my decision very easy.
