What kind of sense does that make? If you take the great performances out of all the above mentioned trilogies and they aren't as good.

I'm just saying all the praise TDK get's is just for Ledger. People say "Oh, it's just the greatest movie ever." No, actually it isn't. Ledger's performace was incredible and the rest was just blah.

I disagree, but that's a discussion for another thread - this is the DKR box office thread after all. |

The projections are usually pretty close. WB isn't releasing BO info until Monday out of respect to the victims. $170M is the highest grossing 2D weekend ever. If you took the 3D surcharges away from Avengers, it would be about the same number.

Yes, but what about IMAX surcharges? I will be going to see it today but TDKR is not going to play with the family crowd as well as The Avenegrs it just isin't.

I can bet that info is incorrect. The actual weekend gross will be around $210M.

Yes, but TDKR is playing on a much larger scale in IMAX. There will still be a + surcharge balance for The Avengers but not enough to make up the difference in gross.

Sadly the tragedy does appear to have impacted ticket sales this weekend, possibly knocking off 10% of the projected total. I doubt many casual fans in Colorado and the West Coast are deciding to see it for the moment on a lark, possibly waiting until a latter date.

There is a certain % drop off or gain on the opening Saturday and then usually a steep drop off on Sunday. There are industry professionals that get data from the studios themselves. They are usually very accurate and if they say a movie is going to do $170M based off Fridays numbers you can bet it'll be very close to that. Where are you getting the $210M figure from?

Take Sean Connery out of Last Crusade, or Ian McKellen from LOTR, and their films wouldn't be as good as they are either. They'd still be great films, but you can say the same about TDK, even without Ledger the film has some fantastic moments where The Joker doesn't show up at all. LOTR is the only perfect trilogy IMO, and that's tanks to the fact that the story was already written and every film was shot at the same time. And with Return of the Jedi, Temple of Doom... Only LOTR and TDK trilogy have been able to reach epic scales without forfeiting great narrative and great acting, in addition to their unbelievable technical feats. Those films never had any hiccups, and unlike the two Lucas series, their creators have yet to expand the series in a disappointing way(and hopefully The Hobbit is as great as it looks) |
