It wouldn't have. They are only a recent thing, and I think the first one was last year. These are either titles already released which are then re-released with a slip, new cover and new disc art (although for some titlea some people have the original disc art in theirs - I do for CTHD) or they are titles which have not been previously released (like the forthcoming Lawrence Of Arabia and The Caine Mutiny)

All the titles should come with a slip and also you would have to order the re-released version to guarantee getting the one in this collection

In direct response to the original post:

The numbers would only annoy me because the the number would be on there while I don't intend to get more than maybe one or two.
I only got 'Das Boot' as one of the nicest editions out there to have one with at least English subtitles,
compared to the beautiful German Anniversary Edition that I initially got, which only has German subtitles or none at all.
Anyway, I don't really see the point of numbering them indeed.
It might add something like "looking nice on your shelf" or that it's clearer if you have them all or which one it is.
But for the rest I can't think of anything other than maybe their reason is to make people want to have them all to complete their collection.

Personally, I do not like these separate/isolated collections.
These films have nothing to do with each other and I don't like the fact that they all have the same design to their covers.
Not sure if it's the same on the inside though? (I haven't opened mine yet.) But if it is, it's kind of silly.
The sleeve looks VERY fancy with the shiny gold on them though. I do like that.
So in case you want to have some kind of "Special Edition" for one of these particular films, it's nice.
But to have them all and also to have them all look the same as if they for some reason belong together, is a bit weird.
In any way, I prefer it if each film is isolated in its own release.

I do like what, for example, Criterion and Arrow do, they're specialized in releasing particular films the best way possible.
But then again, they kind of get this "brand" stamped onto them. Not so much with Criterion as with Arrow maybe, but still.
You could almost say the same of Warner and its DigiBooks actually, but I took use of that to get Classics and Horrors in those editions.
But generally, I don't like when releases start to look the same and are completely in the same form.

I do appreciate any effort they put into products though, that's besides the point.
I'm just one person who likes variation. My collection really doesn't need to be in one neat line of exactly the same cases on a shelf.
In fact, my collection is all over the place just because they don't all fit in one place, as I also have many of those larger boxed sets.
And I like to display some of them. But I like when they do different things, it's fun. I'm not a slob, I just like variation with a hint of OCD. lol

Example:

Maybe "neat and clean" to OCDers, but "Meh...". -_-

Same goes for this:

etc...

But this:

Yay!
"Many great films fail and many shitty movies make a lot of money." - John Landis

BD Wishlist: - Prince of Egypt - Hunchback of Notre Dame - Beverly Hills Cop - Bowfinger - Multiplicity - One Hour Photo - Series: - Over There - Flashpoint - Monk - Friends - My Name Is Earl - Music: - Maiden Rock In Rio - MetallicA S&M - Godsmack Changes - Ramms+ein Berlin - SlipKnoT Disasterpieces - Ozzy At Budokan - Satriani SF

Is it just me, or have tons of posts disappeared from this topic?

I seem to remember a lot more recently.

I received The Caine Mutiny. Was hoping for a leaflet inside telling us what the next Sony Classics will be (other than Lawrence of Arabia), but there wasn't. Guess we'll just have to keep our eyes pealed.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is getting a Re-Release on the 1st of October. Could possibly be part of this collection?

Might be, but Sony don't give dates for when titles previously available get re-released with the new packaging, as was the case with Dr. Strangelove and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I don't know why people like this collection. The covers are so tacky and crap. I purposely buy the American releases (River Kwai) or the original releases (Dr. Strangelove) to avoid this rubbish.
