I just now purchased 'Singin' in the Rain Blu-ray 60th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition' online from Books A Million. They have it for $67.99. Since I am a club members I get free express shipping (1 to 3 business days) and I get lots of coupon during the year. I used a $10 coupon for this order. With tax and everything my total was $61.47.

I'm glad to have it but it's not the showpiece I'd hoped for.
I was aware the camera negatives were destroyed in a fire and was concerned it would never be released in blu-ray.

I haven't watched the entire film, but from the clips I've seen, it looks much better than I expected. I'm sad the camera negatives were lost. The sound quality is excellent. I sent a copy to my daughter-in-law who loves the movie and has a DVD copy. I'm interested in hearing her thoughts on the differences. BTW, she has a full size poster of "Singing In the Rain" autographed to her by Debbie Reynolds!

I received "The Grapes of Wrath" at the same time. Luckily, the transfer could be sourced from original (or near original) elements and I was bowled over at the image quality.

Some people are dissapointed of the picture quality because I does not look so good like Gone with the Wind.
I haven't seen yet but I'm sure it will looks great. It was already very good on the DVD a few years ago.
Well... we know what happened with the original nevatives: the camera negatives were destroyed in a fire... and so, we have to live with them what we're getting.

I just got my 1-disc version today in the mail from Amazon.

The contents of the film disc are the same as the old DVD:
-commentary
-trailer
(plus the new doc - the only new feature)

Disc 2 of the BD set (only available in the box-o-swag) is a DVD and is identical to disc 2 of the old DVD. All the features remain in SD.

I wonder if it literally is the old DVD, with new artwork perhaps just printed on it.

I'm going to take disc 2 from my old DVD and pop it in a 2-disc case with the new BD and I'll have exactly the same content as if I'd bought the uber-expensive box-o-swag.

I would only have received about $2 in trade for the old DVD at Amoeba anyway, so it's an easy fix.

I was able to pick this up today for $9.99 at Fry's.
I'm very happy where 3-D is going, which is that it's becoming a choice - and thankfully, most people are still choosing 2-D.

Sometime I'm wondering myself why they don't sell any movies or Series in more stores.
Even the 80s soap "Falcon Crest" (Season 1 + 2) was never available on our local stores.
How should the people know, that the serie or movie is out on DVD or blu-ray?

Just got back from Costco and got the UCE for $54.99 I got 488 of 7500. In case anyone is interested in getting this at their local Costco the item no. is 666472. I know I bought the single disc yesterday but my sister wanted a copy so I ended up giving it to her. This set is BEAUTIFUL glad to finally finally have it after searching and calling every store here in town if they have it. Glad to also get it at this price. My Costco only had three left and at the time I was there I got one and another customer got one as well. They even had these locked up and once you're ready to check out you have to ask the cashier and they'll get someone to get it in their lock room.

I can't get it to give me free shipping, but this price is still better than amazon. It still sucks that Best Buy is not stocking this as I have a pile of RZ certificates and gift cards to use up.
Hopefully no one else followed my advice and ordered it through WBShop. I placed my order 2 weeks ago and I still have not gotten a shipping notification yet.

I really can't believe how hard they are making it to get this classic movie on Blu-ray. At least my amazon order for the standard edition finally came in a few days ago. I am seriously considering cancelling my order and skipping out on this boxset completely with how annoyed I am getting with this situation.

If you have the old 2-disc DVD, you have everything that you'd be missing on the new set, content-wise. The only new feature is on the BD, a useless, poorly produced featurette interviewing modern pop stars and choreographers about the impact of the film. They all seem to have the vocabularies of middle school students and just babble. And the clips from the film alternate between unrestored fullscreen covered in scratches and dirt, and cropped 1.78:1. I stopped watching after 5 minutes.

I probably should just cancel my boxset order at this point, but it was intended as a gift for my wife. My WBshop order still has not shipped despite the fact I ordered on release day 3.5 weeks ago. If WB really did not want this movie to bring in decent sales why the hell did they even bother releasing it at all?

You are totally right about the new special feature sucking bad. I watched it (well at least 3-4 minutes of it) on the single disc version I got from amazon and you know there is going to be trouble when 2 of the first "stars" speaking are both from Glee. They should have had the actor from The Artist or someone with at least some prestige talk about Singin in the Rain. Maybe they will finally give this movie the respect it deserves when they rerelease it for the 70th Anniversary next decade. /rant

I think the problem is that the old SE DVD had so many bonus features, there really wasn't anything left to cover. The existing materials were fairly comprehensive. However they felt like they had to make a new feature of some sort to advertise on the sticker, so they dashed off this fluff featurette.

On July 12th I went to see 'Singin' in the Rain' at the theater. It came back to the theater tonight. This time I did not go to the theater to see it. I watched it on Blu-ray tonight and I watched it about the same time that it was playing at the theater. Today I was thinking how neat it would be to watch in on Blu-ray at about the same time it was playing at the theater. This is my first time watching this movie on Blu-ray.

Thank you for this info. I didn't realize this. I would also barely get anything out of a trade in. I've never done a hybrid like this, but in this case I think I will.
