United Kingdom Blockbuster UK

Ok, I went into my local Blockbuster for the first time ever today, and honestly...I really shouldn't have bothered!!!!

They had aload of pre-owned titles that were in terrible shape...cracked and grubby cases, etc.

But even more stupidly...most of the prices they were asking for these pre-owned blu-rays, I could have picked up for much less...BRAND NEW!!!!

I experienced the same thing when I went into my nearest Blockbuster for the first time recently. Some other people think they have a good selection with good prices but I suppose it depends on the store, what you're looking for and what you're prepared to pay.

They all differ in what shop you go into, i don't normally by the newer titles as you can get them the same price or cheaper online, but some ex rental titles are cheap and i find you can get ones with decent artwork.

Blockbuster isn't a shop for people who want neat mark free artwork as lots of titles don't have that, but it's good for building up a collection like I've done. Then again you can sometimes come across a real jem in great condition for dirt cheap.
Look up ‘idiot’ in the dictionary, you know what you’ll find?” “A picture of me?” “No, the definition of the word ‘idiot’ which you F***ing are.”

Yeah it is frustrating that people seem to rent a title, wipe their arse with it then return it without Blockbuster calling anyone up on it. Suppose they are afraid of losing customers.

I used to work for Blockies and the state of some discs returned was unbelievable.
Unfortunately the combination of staff, busy periods, time etc meant it was impossible to keep track of the state of discs when returned. If we pulled anyone up on the discs we simply got the answer "It was like that, it stuck a few times even though I tried to clean it".

It was a battle we couldn't win.

I've been in 3 blockbusters to buy blu rays and each one has had good selection and slips in excellent condition. Senna triple play for a tenner was spot on.
Rule: I'm not buying a blu unless either steelbook/slipcover/digibook but will if its a film I really enjoy or limited
Update : Tue 18th Sep 2012 - Added 56 to Steels part 3/3, 27 to slips 2, 25 to LE

Steelbooks 1 (150) Steelbooks 2 (150) Steelbooks 3 (67) Limited Editions (120) Slips 1/2 (150)
Slips 2/2 (150) Digibooks (6)

Didn't notice one James no.

There won't be a next time...never going back again.

I don't seek perfection, but holy hell...the state of some of those cases/inlay cards/slip cases...what they call pre-owned, I would call...on it's last legs!!!!

My local store has one and the staff seem happy to clean discs for you if you ask.

As for buying discs it's hit and miss. Some are in a such poor state that I wouldn't buy them even at a very low price, but then I've sometimes got mint-looking things for a good price, like I recently got the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Edition for £23...

I went up to what used to be my local Blockbuster for the first yesterday in 3 years, only to find out that it became a chip shop the week before. Shows how long it's been since I last got the chance to go there.

PS: The chips and cod weren't that good.

i used to use blockbuster before i moved house (im not near one now) i picked up a few decent titles for reasonable prices, but i did you to get problems sometimes when i got home and the discs were in bad shape, not just with blu's but 360 games/dvds as well it was almost like they dont care. i went back into my old local store recently when i was visiting family and like how others have metioned some of the prices now are stupid, im not gonna pay £10 for a pre owned copy of apollo 18 now am i?
