Any suggestions? I first wanted to go with a samsung, but you guys tend to really trash them on here and other reviews aren't what I expected. I now am leaning towards a Sharp Aquos
I watch lots of movies (blu ray mostly), I use netflix a lot, and play PS3. I get blu rays from different parts of the world and am going to also buy a region free player in the coming months. TV first. Any suggestions? I would like to keep the price between 3000 and 4000 bucks. |

I still haven't made my decision yet, but I was looking at either the 70" Sharp Aquos(It has been that long) and the 65VT or ST Panasonics(Plasma). Both companies have gotten high marks with their sets. I'm going to have to remeasure my family room and see if it will accommodate a 80" if we go that big and the price goes down.
Do you really have something to say or are you just in love with the sound of your keyboard?

I'd go with the 80" Sharp. The 70" is very, very nice.

As far as plasmas go, I do not like burn in possibility and they are usually larger sets right? |

The burn in possibilities of current plasmas is greatly exaggerated by some. You would just about have to intentionally try to burn in your display to accomplish it with current panels. I didn't realize plasma panels were larger? Plasma panels are around the same size as lcd panels from most of my experiences. You said you like your current Samsung and their recent plasma panels have been some of the highest rated sets out (rated far higher than any of their own lcd's and any Sharp panel that doesn't have an Elite badge on it). Basically all I am saying is do your own research, don't let some fanboys or haters make your decision for you.

Also, keep in mind the room you would be putting the tv in. LED/LCD tend to be better for brighter rooms where light isn't easy to control. And plasma for darker rooms or light controlled rooms (since the plasmas tend to have a dimmer picture).
For me, I lucked out and actually have a Panasonic 65VT30 (father's day gift from my wife) and just got a Sharp 70LE845U. The panny was $2500 from Amazon and the Sharp was a little over $3000 after tax. The Sharp is definately brighter but still has a great picture. The Panny definately has noticably darker blacks. I went from a 46inch sony to the Panny and that was a huge difference in size. The Panny was moved out of the living room and into my game room. The Sharp wasn't a HUGE difference in size over the Panny but it is a noticable difference. The Sharp is good in the living room because it opens up to the kitchen where the lights are usually on. The Panny in my game room, I like it better there because the room is smaller and the 65 inches appears even bigger there, and when I'm in there watching a movie, the lights are off and the door closed, so light is not an issue and the picture is amazing. There are good owners threads on AVS.com on both of the TVs. Both have their pros and cons. But both are also great TVs. If they still have the Panasonic 65VT30 on Amazon, you should be able to get a good price since it is last years model. Thats how I got the good price on mine last month. Edit...just checked...$2199.00 right now on Amazon for the Panny. Last edited by xavb; 07-19-2012 at 04:29 PM. |

A caveat worth noting on the Sharps involves viewing the display off-axis. If people are sitting at an angle greater than, say, 30 degrees off to the side, the colors don't look as saturated. This was true for both my 70" and 80" displays. In that instance, a plasma display would be better.

I haven't been able to go out and have some "seat time" with the current crop of sets out. I'm looking for a 65" or 70" display. I haven't decided if I want a plasma or not.
I've seen my friends 70" LC70C6400U, and it was not half bad for the money. I want to keep the cost to around $2K Canadian as I'm spending a boat load on a projector and screen.
