$60 for a Blu-ray drive for my PC in 2009. I sold it for $40 a few months ago when I got a Blu-ray burner drive for $60.
I bought an HD DVD drive first for $110 in late 2007. Unfortunately it was about two months before they dropped to $50. Last edited by PenguinMaster; 07-29-2012 at 02:43 PM. |

Paid $150.00 for a Pioneer BDP-51FD at Best Buy on closeout. Went to the store, saw a good price on a Pioneer with it being only slightly higher than the Insignia sitting next to it. Wasn't planning on buying anything that day; Googled it on my phone to see the MSRP was $599 and swooped it up that instant. It was slashed down mainly because Panasonic had just released wifi connected players and was probably seen to not keep up with the current net connected offerings hitting the street in the $170 dollar range. It wasn't until I brought it home that did some homework to find that it had a killer up-conversion chipset and superior quality of the analog audio outputs (which I currently am using). Man did I luck out on that one.

Free, Sony gave me a launch PS3. Oddly enough, Microsoft gave me a Xbox HD drive and Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player also so I guess the OPPO was really the first player I've ever had to buy.

I got the Samsung 1500 in the spring of 2008, I got a rebate on it (it was $299 but I got it for $200) since I was buying a TV and a HD receiver as well at the same time, was pretty nice of the sale's guy. Unfortunately while I did not have as much trouble with it as others did, it was not a very good player and replaced it with my Sony 360 in August 2009. I guess I should think of getting a new player

Sony BDP-S300 in 2007. (Dubbed "The Tank") About $500 and three free movies.
It is big and slow loading with 2.0 firmware. Sony is showing great support as firmware 6.20 has come out just this past April. Load times are much better, but still slow. The Tank lives!

Samsung bluray player came free with TV. Didn't open it for one month and when I did...the rest is history. Havn't purchased a DVD since.
Will eventually upgrade but not sure when. Looking at the Oppo's.
