I don't fully understand how it's decided to run at only 3,000 copies at $30 each. Is $90,000 enough money to consider this a good business investment? (it's a lot of money to me by the way)

Twilight Time have to know how fast this sold out, so another 3,000 produced would double what they made the first time. Producing more copies to make more money makes business sense to me (and i'm not a business major either).
$90,000 -- PER TITLE. They are releasing 20-24 a year.

2.16 million a year (in gross, not profit)
But still... that's a lot for a small company to basically produce and package a release. With 1. No advertising costs 2. No restoration costs.

Keep in mind, that assumes that every titles sells out, which they do not.

But their titles have undeniably taken a turn towards the mainstream post-Fright Night.

Its a model that works when the titles sell out so they're going to try to get more titles that sell out.

And we've gone over the limited edition model over and over again even before the crash. People won't pay $30 if a title doesn't sell out because they think it's gonna be on sale 6 months later. So you limit it to 3000 and you don't budge on the price and ideally EVERY COPY SELLS FOR FULL PRICE.

According to Nick Redman, they are attempting to release movies that will appeal to people from different genres. Those that may have assumed that Twilight Time was just about releasing classic or obscure titles, were wrong to have assumed such, in my opinion.

I very nearly got this on ebay yesterday...my absolute max that I was willing to pay was £100...but I got outbid and lost out by a couple of pounds.

Ah well, nevermind, we can only hope that someday it will get a proper Blu-ray release...worldwide

I have to say (and please, this is not to offend anyone), is this movie really worth that kind of money? I mean, yes its an 80's classic, but even at $30 this movie is not worth it (my personal opinion). Could it be that the appeal for this bluray be that its rare and valuable?

I personally do not categorize this movie a horror classic with the likes of Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th or the Exorcist. If properly released, this movie would easily be found for $5 along with the Faculty.

To those who own this movie. I congratulate you on having a rare hard to find movie but sincerely it boggles my mind.

To me, Fright Night was worth every penny because, I like the movie, and I wanted it on blu-ray. Fright Night may or may not be re-released in the future, so I've purchased it when it was available for $35.00 from SAE.

Fright Night will be available in the future.

And probably in a much better edition with extra features.

Sony had no interest in releasing this. This is why Twilight Time was able to license it in the first place.

That's a fact, unlike your "probability," also known as "wishful thinking."

Doubtful. Sony doesn't really give a crap about this title, which is why they licensed it out. They only put it out once on DVD, and that was almost 13 years ago.

Let's be realistic, here. As much as we want to think it has more fans than it does, the audience for this is fairly limited and Sony can't be bothered for such little potential profits.

Sure, there may be more people who'd buy this than the 3,000 or so who already got a copy, but how many more, honestly?

I'm not sure how it can be called wishful thinking, when I have never had any interest in buying it. Just reasonable likelihood IMO.

And your logic is not exactly rock solid. Just because they gave a 3 year limited licence to TT doesn't mean they will not re-release it down the road. Otherwise why limit the contract to 3 years. I'm sure some other label like TT will be interested in it if nothing else.

Sure Sony doesn't give it any love, however, if they felt it was financially worthwhile to sell it to TT (and TT felt it was financially worthwhile to sell), no doubt they will barter a similar contract with TT or someone else in 3 years.

Worst case scenario I'm sure it could sell another 3000 copies.

AFAIK, there have been no extras on previous home video releases of Fright Night. Do you really think Sony will invest the $$$ in producing some for people who refuse to pay more than $10 for it?

I agree you are right about the extras, I was being a bit over the top.

But my other statements in the posts on the previous page are sound.
